Police arrest officers caught extorting Rivers motorists in viral video
The Rivers State Police Command has arrested and detained officers allegedly caught extorting motorists in a viral video circulating on social media.
The incident, which occurred in Rivers State and came to public attention on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, involved officers attached to the Old GRA Police Station. The officers were accused of targeting motorists, particularly those with tinted windows, and demanding payments despite valid permits.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Agabe Kaborlo, on behalf of the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, the command confirmed that ASP Omomefe Akin Geoffrey and other officers named in the allegations had been arrested and placed under investigation.
According to the statement, CP Adepoju ordered the officers’ arrest, detention and immediate investigation following allegations of extortion.
He stated: “Extortion, illegal collection of money and any form of unprofessional conduct by police personnel will not be tolerated under any circumstances”.
The Commissioner further assured residents that the investigation would be “thorough, transparent and impartial,” warning that any officer found guilty would face disciplinary action in line with the law and the Nigeria Police Act.
The police command also urged members of the public to continue reporting cases of misconduct, corruption and abuse of office through official complaint channels, reaffirming its commitment to professionalism, integrity and accountability.

Police nab six suspected cultists, recover weapons in Ondo
Six individuals allegedly involved in cultism have been arrested by operatives of the Ondo State Police Command while holding a meeting.
The suspects identified as Kayode Damilare, 30; Godwin Adejoro, 30; Adedapo Ogunro, 36; Chisom Okechukwu, 21; Imisi Ademulegun, 26; and Bukola Odugunle, 21, were apprehended in Akungba and Iwaro Akoko in the Akoko South West Local Government of the state.
The arrest of the suspects was carried out by operatives of the Special Anti-Cultism Squad (SACS) in the early hours of Tuesday, following intelligence received by the command.
According to the police spokesperson in the state, Abayomi Jimoh, the suspects were allegedly involved in activities linked to unlawful confraternities operating within the Akoko axis.
He said, “A thorough search conducted during the operation led to the recovery of several exhibits believed to be connected with cult-related activities.
“These include five battle axes, one jackknife, various criminal charms, as well as confraternity paraphernalia such as boots, yellow singlets, and face caps.
“The recovered items have been taken into police custody as exhibits and will form part of the ongoing investigation.
“Investigation into the matter is ongoing, and the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.”

Troops arrest suspected terrorist in Kano, recover weapons
The troops of the 3 Brigade Nigerian Army have arrested a suspected terrorist during a raid operation in Dambatta Local Government Area of Kano State.
This was made known in a post on X by Zagazola Makama, a security and counter-insurgency expert in the Lake Chad region.
Makama, citing security sources, said the operation was carried out at about 10:30 p.m. on June 21 when troops deployed in Dambatta stormed Konan Dumawa village following intelligence reports.
According to the report, the suspect was apprehended during the raid, while troops also recovered several weapons and items from the scene.
The recovered items include one Dane gun, one locally fabricated pistol, one locally made revolver-type weapon, four cartridges, three knives, two mobile phones, two scissors, one identity card, one locally made charm, and two ATM cards.
The sources said the suspect is currently in military custody and is undergoing further action as investigations continue.
Military authorities stated that the operation is part of ongoing efforts to rid communities of criminal elements and prevent terrorist infiltration and violent crime in Kano State and adjoining areas.
They added that troops remain committed to sustaining intelligence-led operations aimed at enhancing security across the region.

Terrorists neutralised after deadly air strike in Kaduna
Troops conducting air support operations under Operation FANSAN YANMA have reportedly neutralised several suspected terrorists following a precision strike on a hideout in Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Zagazola Makama, who quoted security sources said the operation was executed on Monday at about 5:10 p.m. after credible intelligence indicated terrorist movement within the Kidandan axis of Kidandan.
He said an aerial surveillance platform was deployed for an intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance mission, during which it monitored activities across the general area.
According to a report on his official X handle on Tuesday, four suspected terrorists were initially sighted on motorcycles and placed under continuous tracking, while two additional motorcycles were intercepted along a strategic route believed to lead to a terrorist assembly point.
The monitored movement reportedly led troops to a suspected high-ground hideout within the operational area of Giwa.
“The source said the aerial platform maintained surveillance over the location before a precision strike was carried out on the target, resulting in the neutralisation of several suspected terrorists, while others fled in disarray,” Makama said.
