WWE returned to Australia on Saturday, presenting Crown Jewel 2025 from Perth, Western Australia. After last month’s Wrestlepalooza drew a mixed reaction from critics, Crown Jewel saw a welcome return to form for the world’s leading professional wrestling promotion.

Both the men’s and women’s Crown Jewel Championships were decided at the city’s RAC Arena. Women’s World Champion Stephanie Vaquer defeated WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton, before World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins finally bested WWE Champion Cody Rhodes in the main event.

Both victors were awarded the Crown Jewel Championship belt by Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque, together with a commemorative ring to mark their achievements. The undoubted highlight of the show, though, saw John Cena beat AJ Styles in the pair’s final match ever.

The enthralling bout received a standing ovation from the crowd in what was one of Cena’s final in-ring appearances before retiring in December. Throughout the contest, Cena paid tribute to a host of his past opponents, hitting moves made famous by the likes of Chris Jericho, The Miz, Rusev, The Undertaker, Randy Orton and the late Bray Wyatt.

Despite those callbacks, fans in attendance at the Crown Jewel post-show let Triple H know that there was one more legendary rival of Cena that they hadn’t forgotten about.

WWE Fans Made Their Feelings Clear at Crown Jewel

As WWE’s Chief Content Officer took his seat to join the post-show panel, he was met with loud chants of “We want Edge!”

‘The Rated R Superstar’ is widely considered to be one of Cena’s greatest ever foes. In early 2006, Edge cashed in the first-ever Money in the Bank contract in WWE history to defeat Cena and win his first world title. The pair would go on to trade championships back-and-forth for a number of years.

Still an active performer, the 51-year-old currently competes for rival company, All Elite Wrestling, under his real name of Adam Copeland. The Canadian sparked hopes that he may be in line for a WWE return when he shot an angle on AEW television announcing that he would be leaving for a period of time.

However, it has since been confirmed that his absence relates to his involvement in filming a television series and that there are no plans for him to wrestle Cena before the 17-time world champion retires in December.

That didn’t stop the crowd in Perth from letting Triple H know exactly how they felt. Once the loud chants of “We want Edge” died down, fans sang a full verse of Metalingus, the theme song used by the beloved Superstar.

Not wanting to refer to a wrestler under contract to another promotion, Levesque tried his best not to acknowledge the increasingly loud chants behind him. Ultimately, though, he couldn’t ignore it completely, admitting that the fans had been “doing this all night long”.

In recent times, WWE has been more open to collaborating with other companies as seen by their ongoing working relationship with TNA Wrestling. With that said, an agreement between WWE and AEW would be significantly more difficult to broker.

Cena has wrestled several of his greatest rivals during his retirement tour, including Styles at Crown Jewel. However, the idea of one final Cena vs Edge match looks likely to be one fantasy bout that doesn’t become a reality.
