NFL Teams With the Most Super Bowl Wins

Published

on

While all 32 NFL teams enter each year with the goal of winning a Super Bowl, only one can hoist the Lombardi Trophy at season’s end.

Some franchises have obviously been better at achieving this goal than others, many of which have worked their way up the most Super Bowl wins list with dynasty runs that yield multiple championships in a short amount of time.

Since the first Super Bowl was played following the 1966 season, 20 different franchises have won it, an astonishing 16 of which have won it multiple times. The four teams to have won just one Super Bowl are the New York Jets, Chicago Bears, New Orleans Saints, Seattle Seahawks.

The Miami Dolphins, Indianapolis Colts, Baltimore Ravens, Los Angeles Rams, Philadelphia Eagles and Tampa Bay Buccaneers have won two, while the Las Vegas Raiders, Washington Commanders, and Denver Broncos franchises have won three.

Then you’ve got the elite of the elite, those being the six franchises that have combined to win 34 of the first 58 Super Bowls. Let’s take a look at the teams that are responsible for the most Super Bowl wins in NFL history.

Pittsburgh Steelers – 6

The Pittsburgh Steelers have forged one of the greatest legacies in NFL history, marked by six Super Bowl victories. And as they were the first to six, that’s why they get the top spot here.

The Steelers’ first triumph came at the conclusion of the 1974 campaign in Super Bowl 9, when they overcame the Minnesota Vikings with a dominant defensive display to notch a 16-6 victory. The famed Steel Curtain defense, led by Hall of Famers like Mean Joe Greene and Jack Lambert, became synonymous with the team’s success.

Continuing to establish their dominance during the decade, the Steelers clinched their second title a year later in Super Bowl 10, triumphing over the Dallas Cowboys by a score of 21-17. Quarterback Terry Bradshaw’s solid performance, coupled with a legendary catch by Lynn Swann, solidified the Steelers’ status as a force to be reckoned with.

The Steelers secured back-to-back victories for a second time in the 13th and 14th editions of the Big Game. Another memorable clash against the Cowboys saw Bradshaw connecting with John Stallworth for crucial touchdowns, sealing a 35-31 win in Super Bowl 13.

Super Bowl 14 witnessed the Steelers overcoming the Los Angeles Rams by a score of 31-19, with Bradshaw earning his second straight Super Bowl MVP.

After a lengthy championship hiatus, the Steelers returned to glory following the 2005 season, winning Super Bowl 40 against the Seattle Seahawks, 21-10. Head coach Bill Cowher orchestrated a memorable victory and sent legendary running back Jerome Bettis off into the sunset with a ring.

The Steelers secured their sixth and most recent Super Bowl win following the 2008 campaign, as they emerged victorious in Super Bowl 43 against the Arizona Cardinals. In a thrilling battle, Ben Roethlisberger’s late-game heroics, which included a game-winning touchdown pass to Santonio Holmes, led to a 27-23 victory.

2

New England Patriots – 6

Tom Brady New England Patriots Super Bowl 53

The New England Patriots were the epitome of success in the NFL for nearly two decades, earning six Super Bowl victories in nine appearances during that stretch.

The era of dominance under the leadership of head coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady began with Super Bowl 36 following the 2001 season. Facing the favored St. Louis Rams, TB12 engineered a game-winning drive that resulted in Adam Vinatieri’s iconic last-second field goal, securing a 20-17 victory and the franchise’s first Super Bowl title.

After missing the postseason in 2002, the Patriots clinched consecutive victories in Super Bowls 38 and 39. The former, against the Carolina Panthers, witnessed another clutch performance by Vinatieri in a 32-29 win, while the latter showcased the Patriots’ resilience against the Philadelphia Eagles, prevailing in yet another three-point victory, 24-21.

After a decade of disappointments in the postseason, the Patriots’ greatness continued in Super Bowl 49 following the 2014 campaign in a matchup against the Seattle Seahawks. In a dramatic showdown, the Patriots secured a 28-24 win with a goal-line interception by rookie Malcolm Butler.

Super Bowl 51, which followed the 2016 season, stands as one of the greatest comebacks in NFL history. Famously overcoming a seemingly insurmountable 28-3 deficit against the Atlanta Falcons, the Patriots forced overtime and ultimately came away with a 34-28 win.

Super Bowl 53 witnessed the Patriots’ defensive prowess, stifling the Los Angeles Rams in a 13-3 defensive battle, securing their sixth title. The duo of Belichick and Brady separated soon after, as Brady took his talents to Tampa Bay in 2020 and promptly won a seventh title in his first season with the Buccaneers.

The San Francisco 49ers own five Super Bowl victories, all of which came during the team’s dynastic run in the 1980s and 1990s.

The Niners’ first taste of championship glory came in Super Bowl 16 following the 1981 season when they squared off against the Cincinnati Bengals. With the brilliant schemes of head coach Bill Walsh and the brilliance of quarterback Joe Montana, the 49ers emerged victorious with a 26-21 triumph.

The 49ers continued their winning ways in Super Bowl 19 after the 1984 campaign, as they clashed with NFL MVP Dan Marino and the Miami Dolphins. Montana’s stellar performance, coupled with an outstanding defensive effort, propelled the team to a 38-16 victory.

Following the 1988 season, the Niners again went at it with the Bengals in Super Bowl 23, with Montana orchestrating a memorable game-winning drive late in the fourth quarter to secure a 20-16 win.

Under new head coach George Seifert, who replaced Walsh ahead of the 1989 campaign, the 49ers went back-to-back and secured their fourth Super Bowl triumph, defeating the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl 24 by a score of 55-10, which remains the biggest blowout in Super Bowl history.

The fifth and most recent Super Bowl victory for the 49ers came following the 1994 season in Super Bowl 29, where they faced off against the San Diego Chargers. Quarterback Steve Young, who’d replaced Montana a few years earlier, stepped into the spotlight, delivering a masterful performance and leading the team to a 49-26 victory with a Super Bowl record six touchdown passes.

Dallas Cowboys – 5

The Dallas Cowboys’ first taste of championship glory came in Super Bowl 6 following the 1971 season when they clashed with the Miami Dolphins.

Led by coach Tom Landry and quarterback Roger Staubach, the Cowboys dominated the Dolphins by a score of 24-3, securing the first of their five Super Bowl titles.

The Cowboys’ second triumph came in Super Bowl 12 against the Denver Broncos following the 1977 campaign. The game showcased the team’s vaunted “Doomsday Defense,” which stifled the Broncos and paved the way for a 27-10 victory. Staubach earned Super Bowl MVP honors in the victory.

Facing off against the Buffalo Bills, the Cowboys cruised to a 52-17 triumph, with Aikman orchestrating a dominant offensive display en route to winning Super Bowl MVP.

The Cowboys added two more championships in the 1990s, securing back-to-back victories in Super Bowl 28 in a rematch against the Bills and winning a third title in four seasons with a Super Bowl 30 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Green Bay Packers – 4

The Green Bay Packers are easily one of the NFL’s most storied franchises, and their four Super Bowl victories attest to their rich football legacy.

The first triumph occurred in the very first Super Bowl, then called the AFL-NFL World Championship Game, in a historic matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. Led by legendary coach Vince Lombardi and quarterback Bart Starr, the Packers emerged victorious with a 35-10 score, securing their place in history as the inaugural Super Bowl champions.

After getting past the Dallas Cowboys the following season in the coldest game in NFL history to secure the NFL Championship, the Packers continued their dominance in Super Bowl 2, this time facing the AFL champion Oakland Raiders.

Lombardi’s tactical brilliance and Starr’s strong performance propelled Green Bay to a 33-14 victory, cementing their back-to-back Super Bowl titles.

After a lengthy hiatus from Super Bowl success, the Packers returned to the promised land following the 1996 season. Under the guidance of head coach Mike Holmgren and quarterback Brett Favre, Green Bay faced the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 31.

Favre’s stellar play and Super Bowl MVP Desmond Howard’s electrifying kickoff return for a touchdown fueled the Packers to a 35-21 triumph.

The most recent title victory for the Packers came after the 2010 season in Super Bowl 45, where they squared off against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Led by quarterback Aaron Rodgers and head coach Mike McCarthy, Green Bay secured a 31-25 victory, with Rodgers earning Super Bowl MVP honors.

New York Giants – 4

A year after the Packers secured their fourth Super Bowl victory, the New York Giants became the next to do so.

Their first triumph came in Super Bowl 21 following the 1986 season when they faced the Denver Broncos. Led by quarterback Phil Simms, who earned Super Bowl MVP honors by completing 22 of 25 passes for 268 yards and three touchdowns, the Giants dominated to take an easy 39-20 victory.

The Giants secured their second Lombardi Trophy four years later in Super Bowl 25 in a nail-biting clash with the Buffalo Bills. The game is best remembered for Buffalo kicker Scott Norwood’s missed field goal attempt in the final seconds, sealing the Giants’ 20-19 win.

Jeff Hostetler, who took over as quarterback after Simms’ injury, displayed remarkable composure in guiding the team to victory.

Following the 2007 campaign, the Giants faced Tom Brady and the undefeated New England Patriots in Super Bowl 42. With Eli Manning orchestrating a dramatic game-winning drive, the Giants pulled off a stunning 17-14 upset, ending the Patriots’ quest for a perfect season.

Manning’s escape from a seemingly certain sack to connect with David Tyree for the “Helmet Catch” remains one of the most iconic moments in Super Bowl history.

Four years later, in Super Bowl 46, the Giants once again clashed with the Patriots. Manning engineered another late-game drive, and Ahmad Bradshaw’s unconventional game-winning touchdown secured a 21-17 triumph, marking the Giants’ fourth Super Bowl victory.

Kansas City Chiefs – 4

The Kansas City Chiefs have earned their place in NFL history with four impressive Super Bowl victories, the last three of which have taken place over the last few years.

The first triumph came in Super Bowl 4 when the Chiefs, led by legendary coach Hank Stram and quarterback Len Dawson, defeated the Minnesota Vikings by a score of 23-7. This victory marked the AFL’s final triumph over the NFL before the two leagues officially merged in 1970.

After a long 50-year wait, the Chiefs returned to football’s biggest stage with head coach Andy Reid and superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes leading the way.

In Super Bowl 54, the Chiefs faced the San Francisco 49ers and pulled off a thrilling comeback victory. Trailing 20-10 in the fourth quarter, Mahomes showcased his clutch abilities, leading the Chiefs to 21 unanswered points and a 31-20 win.

Three years later, facing the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl 57, the Chiefs again faced a 10-point deficit, trailing 24-14 at halftime. But once again, Mahomes brought Kansas City back, throwing two touchdown passes in the final frame to lead the Chiefs to a 38-35 victory.

In a rematch with the 49ers in Super Bowl 58, the Chiefs fell behind 10-0 but yet again clawed their way back behind a third Super Bowl MVP performance from Mahomes. In just the second Super Bowl to reach overtime and the longest title game in NFL history, Mahomes connected with Mecole Hardman for a three-yard touchdown to secure a 25-22 victory.

Andy Murray Named Which of Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic He Didn’t Mind Playing

Published

Who could ever forget the ‘Big Four’ that dominated tennis for decades? Before Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner entered the scene with their iconic matches, there was the indomitable quartet of Andy Murray, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Roger Federer.

Their might transcended tennis and transformed them into household names, regardless of whether people were tennis fans or not.

From the 2003 Australian Open to the 2026 French Open, the four have won a combined total of 69 Grand Slam titles out of 93.

‘Big Four’ Have Dominated Modern Tennis

Andy Murray, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic

Djokovic leads the way with a record 24 titles, including a triple Career Grand Slam. Nadal is close behind with 22, including a double Career Grand Slam and a record 14 French Open titles, notably favouring the clay courts of Roland Garros, which earned him the nickname ‘The King of Clay.’

Federer has 20 Grand Slam wins, including a record eight men’s singles Wimbledon titles and holds the record for winning five consecutive titles in two different tournaments, winning from 2003-2007 at Wimbledon and 2004-2008 at the US Open.

Murray’s Grand Slam victories pale in comparison to the other three, who are acclaimed as the greatest tennis players ever. The Scot only won three Slams in his career, the 2012 US Open, the 2013 Wimbledon Championships, and the 2016 Wimbledon Championships.

However, he is more than deserving of his spot alongside the three, with more victories against them than anyone in history. He defeated Federer to take a gold medal on home soil at the 2012 London Olympics and defeated Djokovic for both his US Open victory, where he became the first British major singles champion since Virginia Wade in 1977, and his 2013 Wimbledon victory, becoming the first Brit to take the win since Fred Perry in 1936.

Andy Murray

He also defended his gold medal in Brazil at the 2016 Rio Olympics to become the only player, male or female, to win two Olympic gold medals in singles.

Now, Murray has had his say on which of his fellow ‘Big Four’ members he felt the most comfortable playing against.

Andy Murray’s Preferred Opponent Out of ‘Big Four’

Speaking on former cricketer Kevin Pietersen’s YouTube channel, the Glaswegian highlighted Federer as the opponent he felt more at ease sharing a court with.

Though he has an 11-14 record against the Swiss powerhouse, Murray enjoyed clashes with him more than his battles with Nadal and Djokovic.

Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, Murray

Speaking on The Switch, he said: “He [Federer] was the guy that was comfortably number one in the world at the time. The first time [I played him] was in 2005.

“I played against him in the final of a tournament in Bangkok. It was my first final on the main tour. I actually played a good match [but] I lost.

Andy Murray, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic

25 Greatest Male Tennis Players in History [Ranked]

Unsurprisingly, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, and Novak Djokovic all make the list, but who else joins them?

“I played against him 25 times in total. I’ve got 11 wins against him and I didn’t mind playing him as much as some of the others.”

He has the same number of wins against Federer as he does against Djokovic, though, the Serb has defeated him 25 times and eight times in Slams. They are one of two male pairs to have contended the finals of each of the four Grand Slams, with Djokovic and Nadal being the other.

Andy Murray

Murray admitted that before joining the ATP Tour, he already admired Federer, stating: “I loved watching [Federer]. I had an injury when I was 16 where I couldn’t play for like six months and I used to sit and take notes on him and watch a lot of the top players.

“It helped me because when I then went on the tour, I felt like I’d seen so much of them. I actually had a plan at how I’d go about playing against them.”

While the Scotsman has a lot of praise for Federer, it was Nadal who famously once said: “In terms of level of tennis, in terms of mentality, winning spirit, Andy was the only one at the level of myself, Roger [Federer] and Novak [Djokovic].”

Andy Murray

The Spaniard may have beaten Murray on 17 occasions, with the Brit only felling the icon seven times, but he showed considerable strength, resilience, and fortitude. Despite ultimately losing in their five-set thriller at the 2011 Australian Open, Murray is remembered for his tenacity and ability to handle the intense playing style of Nadal.

The ultimate debate about the best tennis player ever is multi-faceted and contentious, but Murray deserves to be remembered and respected for his determination and strong work ethic.

Tottenham ‘Very Close’ to Agreeing Personal Terms With Mateus Fernandes

Published

Tottenham Hotspur are now ‘very close’ to agreeing terms to sign West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes, according to Matteo Moretto, as they look to land the Portugal international and Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali.

Tottenham have been making some hugely ambitious moves in the summer transfer window having narrowly avoided dropping into the Championship.

Now, under Roberto De Zerbi, Spurs are making a huge splash in the summer transfer window with moves for Andy Robertson, Jan Paul van Hecke and Marcos Senesi already completed and announced.

The north London outfit are now concentrating on strengthening the team further forward, with midfield becoming a key area in recent days.

Firstly, it was confirmed by Fabrizio Romano that they are pushing to sign Tonali from Newcastle, in what would be a huge statement of intent given the Italy international has been targeted by Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United as well.

Then, it emerged from David Ornstein that the club wanted to sign Fernandes alongside the Italian, after the Irons suffered relegation.

Tottenham are also looking at the forward positions as they look to complete seven summer signings for their Italian manager.

Fernandes is Manchester United’s top midfield target as things stand after finding deals to sign Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson and Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni too difficult to do, but they now face stiff competition from Tottenham.

According to Moretto, posting on X on Saturday afternoon, Spurs are now ‘very close’ to reaching an agreement with the 21-year-old ‘superstar’ on personal terms to make the move across the capital.

The Portugal international is open to signing for Tottenham as he looks to avoid playing in England’s second tier, although there has been no club-to-club contact between them and West Ham yet.

Getting the buy-in from the player is important, but they will also be aware that it has been widely reported that the youngster is keen on a move to Old Trafford to link up with compatriot Bruno.

Another Tottenham source claimed earlier this week that the club also has an agreement on personal terms to sign Tonali.

The big issue facing both Tottenham and Man United is West Ham’s demands for Fernandes.

Recognising both his talent now and the huge potential he has for the future, the Irons are ready to demand £80-85m for their prized asset this summer, even though they are now a Championship club.

United will already be trying to negotiate that fee down, and then Spurs can do the same if they get confirmation that the player is willing to join them.

Despite the latest breakthrough, it feels like the Fernandes transfer saga still has a long way to go this summer.

Joe Hart Suggests Goalkeeper Mistakes Could Be Down to Ball

Published

on

By

After retiring two seasons ago, former England and Manchester City goalkeeper, Joe Hart, immediately set to work as a pundit for the BBC for Euro 2024.

He remains with them covering the World Cup and it appears that he’s clocked something that could prove decisive as the tournament unfolds.

The World Cup is a slightly sore subject for Hart. He only ever played at one World Cup himself, in 2014, when Roy Hodgson’s side finished bottom of their group. He also travelled to South Africa in 2010, though Fabio Capello chose Rob Green and David James ahead of him. That tournament put the chaos of the Jabulani on full display, and Hart believes this summer’s competition has thrown up an eerily similar problem.

What Joe Hart Spotted With the World Cup Ball

Joe Hart
Joe Hart

Speaking on the BBC after analysing Martin Baturina’s equaliser for Croatia against England, Hart seemed to think the ball, the Trianda, which is supplied by Adidas, could be catching goalkeepers out: “I honestly feel like this ball is coming onto the goalkeepers a lot faster than they feel it is off the foot. Now, what you notice with this is Jordan Pickford flies at this ball, and he just doesn’t. You’ll ask, ‘Why has he gone with his thumb rather than his hand? It just feels like it is on him.”

Hart went through more examples from the tournament, including Lionel Messi’s opener against Algeria, pointing out that goalkeepers are consistently misjudging their timing on shots from distance, suggesting that in normal circumstances, some shots would have a higher chance of being saved.

Unlike anything used before it, the Trianda is fitted with live sensors that feed data straight to VAR, helping officials judge touches and track movement, and it even requires charging before a match. It’s also built with just four panels rather than 32, a design change that alters how the ball moves through the air.

See what Hart had to say in full below:

Hart’s breakdown went down well online, with multiple fans praising the fresh insight he’s brought to the punditry desk, and the representation provides for goalkeepers.

Ranking the 25 Greatest Goalkeepers in Football History

The best goalkeepers to ever play football have been ranked – we’ve managed to narrow it down to 25 legendary shot-stoppers.

“He’s a great addition as a pundit, because he actually gives some insight into an area of the game most people don’t really think about.”

“Him and Rooney are far better pundits than I expected them to be, nice to have a keeper giving insight, usually an area they don’t have expertise on.”

With Hart’s explanation now out there, backed up by what looks like visual evidence to support it, don’t be surprised if outfield players start sensing an opportunity, and long-range efforts could become a lot more common for the rest of the tournament.
