West Ham Make £10m Approach To Sign Brazilian Midfielder

Published

on

West Ham are preparing a move to sign a player who may be usurped at Flamengo by Lucas Paqueta.

It is not an old-school swap deal in any sense of the imagination, but the Hammers are looking to sign Flamengo midfielder Evertton Araujo – a player who could see his place in the Brazilian team by the former West Ham man.

Paqueta completed a £35.5million move back to his boyhood club in the January transfer window, having been given permission by the Hammers to speak to his old club about a move home.

Now Araujo could make the move in the other direction.

According to Coluna do Fla journalist Leo Jose, as per Sport Witness, the Hammers have already approached the player through their scouting department and have placed him under close observation.

However, there could be some discord over the price tag. The Hammers are understood to have valued the midfield man at around €12million (£10.2million), but the Brazilian side think he is worth significantly more and will no doubt demand more should he have a good first half to the new Brazilian league season.

There could also be problems getting a deal over the line due to economic rights. The Sport Witness report goes on to state that third tier side Volta Redonda hold 30% of the player’s economic rights, while Flamengo control the remaining 70%. This split means any future sale would require careful negotiation to satisfy all parties involved.

Former Chelsea Star Filipe Luis Loves Him At Flamengo

Filipe Luis

Former Chelsea player Filipe Luis is the manager of Flamengo and is a big fans of Araujo.

Speaking last year, he said: “I’m very proud of him. It’s easy to say he deserves it, but he’s a boy who’s under a lot of pressure. He’s never trained badly, on the contrary, he’s the one who trains the best, the one who wants to learn the most, he’s always happy.

“It’s a luxury for the coach to have a player like that. Even though he’s criticised by the fans, he needs to get used to it. I really like this kid; he has details about the defensive midfield position that no one else has. We have to be careful with him.”

Araujo is under contract until December 2028 and Wolves have also show an interest in signing him.

Lewis Hall Wants to Join Man Utd and Play in the Champions League

Manchester United have received a fresh summer transfer window boost with the news that an England international star wants to join them this summer, according to the Sun.

Man United sprung into action immediately after the end of the Premier League season and quickly agreed a deal to sign Ederson from Atalanta, as they look to transform their central midfield ahead of next term when they return to the Champions League.

The Red Devils may have expected to get another midfielder through the door by now, but business has been complicated by the 2026 World Cup and the valuations being set by clubs for their targets.

A move for their top summer target Elliot Anderson proved inhibitive, with Manchester City agreeing a huge £116m deal to sign the Nottingham Forest star.

United turned their attention to West Ham United’s Mateus Fernandes, who they would have hoped to land for a reasonable fee after the Irons were relegated to the Championship.

However, the Irons are in no mood to sell their prized asset on the cheap, and they are demanding a fee of between £80-85m to begin concrete talks over a sale.

United are considering strengthening other positions too, including on the left-hand side.

According to the Sun, one of the other positions they could bolster in this summer transfer window is left-back.

Luke Shaw started all 38 of United’s Premier League matches last term having suffered from injury issues previously, but there is little quality and depth behind him in that position, especially if the Red Devils decide to use Patrick Dorgu further forward on a full-time basis.

The increased workload of a Champions League campaign could increase Shaw’s risk of injury too, with Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall one player they have been looking at.

The Sun report that the £70m-rated Englishman is keen to join United and play for them in the Champions League, especially after believing that Eddie Howe cost him his place in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad this summer, after how he was managed during Newcastle’s run-in last term.

Newcastle have already sold Anthony Gordon to Barcelona and at a time when Sandro Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes and Tino Livramento are all being linked with exits, they must try and keep hold of some of those players, including Hall.

The Magpies are said to be loath to sell the full-back to United in particular, given he has three years remaining on his contract.

United Identify Fernandes Alternatives

Not only are United being put off by West Ham’s high valuation of Fernandes, but the emergence of Tottenham Hotspur in the race for the 21-year-old has made things even more difficult.

Should the Red Devils fail to land the Portuguese star, they do have other targets on their radar this summer, with Premier League experience.

Two of those, according to GIVEMESPORT sources, are Brighton and Hove Albion’s Carlos Baleba and Alex Scott of Bournemouth, while Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni remains Michael Carrick’s ‘dream’ target.

Arsenal Launch £55m Move for Bruno Guimaraes

Published

Arsenal have launched a £55m move to sign Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, with Fabrizio Romano revealing the latest on the situation overnight.

Arsenal‘s big focus so far in the summer transfer window has been looking at strengthening their frontline, with the club expected to make a formal move for Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers soon.

The Gunners are also in ongoing talks with Leicester City over a deal to sign 16-year-old attacking sensation Jeremy Monga, who looks set to leave the King Power Stadium following the Foxes’ relegation to League One.

It appears as though the north London outfit will sign a new central midfielder for next season too, with links to the likes of Bournemouth’s Alex Scott, AS Roma’s Manu Kone, Lille’s Ayyoub Bouaddi and Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali in recent weeks.

It is actually Tonali’s Magpies teammate that Arsenal have made an approach for though, as they look to add more quality and depth to their engine room in their bid to successfully defend their Premier League title and go one step further in the Champions League.

Craig Hope broke the story first on Thursday evening, with Romano now providing more details on the move.

Romano: Arsenal Make Direct Bruno Guimaraes Approach

Arsenal making contact to sign Bruno Guimaraes came out of nowhere on Thursday night after no recent links, with Tonali the Newcastle player mentioned more alongside a move to the Emirates in recent months.

The Magpies are looking to prevent an exodus of players this summer, with Tonali a top target for Tottenham Hotspur, and Anthony Gordon already leaving to join Barcelona.

Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento have also been linked with moves away from St James’ Park.

Speaking on his YouTube channel overnight on Thursday, Romano revealed what he knows about Arsenal’s approach for the Brazilian.

He said: “I can confirm the information going around England, reported by Craig Hope about Newcastle, about Arsenal’s interest in Bruno Guimaraes.

“It’s true that Arsenal made an approach for Bruno Guimaraes. It was a direct approach on player side and club side with Newcastle, so Arsenal have reached out for Bruno Guimaraes. My understanding is that their intention was to try to approach for a deal around £55m, but Newcastle are not selling the player for that fee.

“Newcastle closed the doors to this approach from Arsenal. Now we will see if Arsenal return, if there is anything moving at the moment. Bruno Guimaraes is leaving everything in the hands of Newcastle, and he is respecting Newcastle.”

Bruno Guimaraes Would be a Great Arsenal Signing

Bruno Guimaraes has massive Premier League experience, is a leader and always gives his all on the pitch.

It’s no wonder why Arteta looks to have a keen interest in the Brazil international, who is one of the biggest characters in the Premier League.

The 28-year-old has even been labelled as ‘one of the best midfielders in the world’ by Gunners forward Gabriel Martinelli, who knows him well from playing alongside him in the national team.

£55m would have been a great fee to land Guimaraes for, but it appears as though it will take a lot more to convince Newcastle to sell their captain and one of their biggest prize assets.

Lionel Messi Was ‘Unhappy’ With Mauricio Pochettino at PSG

Five years ago, Paris Saint-Germain was home to both Lionel Messi and Mauricio Pochettino. Today, you can find them both stateside, with Inter Miami and the USMNT, respectively.

Back in 2021, though, the pair were supposed to be central figures in PSG’s quest for Champions League glory, with the club having assembled one of the most star-studded squads in football history, featuring names such as Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Angel Di Maria.

Instead, the Messi-Pochettino pairing turned sour almost immediately, with reports at the time suggesting the Argentine superstar had serious doubts over his compatriot’s tactics and grip on the dressing room.

So, what actually went wrong between the two?

Messi was said to believe Pochettino’s setup was simply too restrictive, with him being utilised as an attacking midfielder most of the time, rather than his preferred position on the right flank.

20 Greatest Argentine Players in Football History [Ranked]

From Lionel Messi to Diego Maradona, Argentina have time and again produced true greats of the game.

The numbers backed up some of that frustration, with Messi managing just six league goals, compared to the 30 he scored for Barcelona in La Liga the season before, although he found considerably more joy in the Champions League, scoring five goals in seven matches.

French outlet L’Equipe reported that those in Messi’s inner circle feared Pochettino lacked any authority, with respect for the manager being near-enough non-existent among PSG’s biggest names.

Looking back, the warning signs were there from Messi’s very first appearance at the Parc des Princes. Coming on against Lyon, Messi was substituted in the 75th minute and refused to shake Pochettino’s hand as he walked off, a moment that hinted at the friction to come.

That early snub proved to be more than just a one-off flash of frustration. In early 2022, Messi was accused of “disrespecting” Pochettino after deciding to stay home with COVID-19 and not inform his manager.

Pochettino would eventually depart the Parc des Princes, while Messi stayed another year, but both of their PSG spells are now remembered as a chapter that never matched the hype, after getting nowhere near the Champions League title they looked destined to win, on paper at least.
