2027: ‘We’ll interrogate what Peter Obi did to northerners as Anambra gov’ – Prof Yusuf

Former Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Scheme, NHIS, Prof Usman Yusuf, has recounted what former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, did to northerners when he was Anambra State governor.

Speaking during an interview on Trust TV, Yusuf said Obi sent northerners out of Anambra as governor.

He also alleged that Obi made northerners staying in Anambra at the time to have identity cards.

“Kwankwaso is the vehicle to sell Peter Obi to the North, but we have the record of what Peter Obi did to northerners.

“The evil that men do lives after them. I said this because we (Northern Muslims) are going to interrogate and question Peter Obi’s tenure when he was the governor of Anambra State. What he did to northerners.

“He even made them have an ID card, their names, where they are from and their occupations. In this Nigeria that we live. He will come and explain to us.

“It is the same Kwankwaso that had to fly to Awka and sit with him and say, be careful. I have more Igbos in Kano living in peace than there are northerners throughout the South-East,” Yusuf said.

A governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Gombe State, Abdulkadir Saleh, has rejected the emergence of former Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, as the party’s governorship candidate.

Interacting with reporters at his residence in Gombe, Saleh stated that Pantami’s emergence was unfair to other aspirants who purchased nomination forms and participated in the processes outlined by the party.

Noting that the primary election earlier scheduled for Sunday was postponed to Tuesday, Saleh said he was surprised to learn that Pantami had emerged as the party’s candidate.
“While we were waiting for the primary election to be conducted last Sunday, it was suddenly announced that it was moved to Tuesday.

“Without any explanation from the party leadership, we woke up this morning to the news that Isa Pantami had emerged as the PDP governorship candidate,” he said.

The aspirant equally queried Pantami’s participation in the PDP primary, alleging that he had earlier contested in the APC governorship primary conducted on May 21, 2026.

“I condemn in the strongest terms what I consider an injustice against me and other aspirants. My legal team is already working on the matter, and we will seek redress through the appropriate legal channels,” he stated.

Pantami reportedly emerged as the PDP governorship candidate through voice affirmation during the party’s primary election held on Tuesday ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

Senator Shehu Buba Umar has emerged as the governorship candidate of the People’s Redemption Party (PRP) for the 2027 general election in Bauchi State.

The announcement was made during the party’s special delegates congress held in Bauchi, where the primary election was conducted through voice affirmation by delegates.

The exercise was supervised by the PRP National Vice Chairman (North), Haruna Buhari, who formally declared the senator as the party’s flagbearer after the affirmation process.

“Senator Shehu Buba Umar has met all legal requirements, as well as the provisions of the PRP constitution and electoral guidelines. I, therefore, declare him the duly elected governorship candidate of the PRP for the 2027 general election,” Buhari said.

He explained that the process followed the party’s constitution, which allows affirmation where there is a single aspirant, noting that delegates unanimously endorsed the senator.

The state chairman of the PRP, Abdulraham Muazu, said the party was positioning itself for a strong showing in the 2027 elections, adding that the emergence of Senator Buba was a major boost for the party.

He described the senator as a strong political figure with experience and the capacity to win elections, expressing confidence in the party’s readiness to compete.

In his acceptance speech, Senator Buba thanked the party leadership and delegates for the confidence reposed in him.

He said he had fully integrated his political structure into the PRP after becoming a card-carrying member in his ward in Toro Local Government Area.

“I thank the leadership and delegates for this trust. I am fully committed to this party, and I believe together we will succeed in 2027,” he said.

He also expressed optimism about victory, saying the combination of party members and public support would work in his favour.

Senator Buba further urged party members, especially youths and women, to mobilise across communities and intensify grassroots campaigns ahead of the election.

The congress also saw the endorsement of 31 House of Assembly candidates, who were presented and approved by delegates in accordance with the party’s rules.

FRSC cautions passengers against pressuring drivers to speed

The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, have cautioned passengers against pressuring drivers to speed.

Operatives of the agency on Tuesday stopped a drunken driver from traveling during a Sensitisation Campaign in Calabar, Cross River State.

Sector Commander of the FRSC in Cross River State, Innocent Tommy Etuk, said the sensitisation campaign organized ahead of the Sallah celebration is aimed at educating motorists and passengers on safe road conduct during the festivities.

Etuk described passengers’ behaviour of pressuring drivers to speed as dangerous and capable of causing fatal crashes.

“Passengers are not always right when they encourage reckless driving, drivers must stay calm and be safety conscious.

“Travellers must prioritise safe arrival over speed because families want to celebrate when you arrive safely and not to mourn,” he noted.

Etuk said the drunk driver failed a breathalyser test conducted at the motor park.

According to him, the driver recorded 0.481 milligrammes alcohol level, far above the approved safety limit for motorists. He explained that the driver was immediately withdrawn from duty to prevent a possible road crash.

“We cannot allow such a driver to continue the journey because it is a crash waiting to happen,” he said.
