Deputy Minority Whip of the Senate, Senator Rufai Hanga (Kano Central), has dumped his recently found party, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

In a resignation letter dated August 3 and addressed to the NDC ward chairman in Najeria ward, Nasarawa LGA of Kano State, Hanga said his resignation takes immediate effect.

Recall that Senator Hanga, following the registration of NDC as a political party, followed his leader, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the NDC.

According to Hanga, he decided to leave the NDC after “careful reflection and personal deliberation”.

He said, “I am writing to formally notify you of my resignation from the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), effective from today, 3rd August 2026,” the letter reads.

“After careful reflection and personal deliberation, I have decided to withdraw my membership from the party to pursue other personal commitments and career paths.”

Hanga, who thanked the ward executive committee and members of the party for their support during his time in the NDC, said, “I want to express my sincere gratitude to you, the Ward Executive Committee, and the entire membership of Dakata Ward for the opportunities, support, and fellowship I enjoyed during my time with the party.

“I cherish the relationships built and the experiences gained during our political activities together.”

The Senator, who also asked the party to remove his name from its membership register, said, “Please feel advised my official NDC membership Card, I request that my name be formally removed from the party register at the ward level.”

He wished the party and its members well in their future endeavours.

2027: Come, tell Nigerians primary, secondary school you attended – Kalu challenges Tinubu

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Kalu Kalu, has challenged President Bola Tinubu to tell Nigerians the primary and secondary schools he attended.

Kalu threw the challenge to the President on Monday while appearing as a guest on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

His challenge stems from the publication of the credentials and personal particulars of presidential candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

DAILY POST recalls that Tinubu did not list his primary and secondary school qualifications in the educational details section of the personal particulars he submitted to INEC for the 2027 presidential election.

Reacting, Kalu said, “Come and tell Nigerians which primary and secondary schools you attended.

“Even in 2022, in the INEC document he submitted, he claimed he had a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate.

“And the name on that certificate was Bola Adekunle Tinubu. So where did he get ‘Adekunle’ from? He claimed he graduated, but the certificate was forged.”

The newly inaugurated caretaker committee of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Osun State has called on political parties to unite ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.

IPAC also stressed the need for fairness, integrity and respect throughout the electoral process.

Speaking during the inauguration ceremony on Monday, the caretaker committee chairman, Odesola Oluseye, urged members of IPAC to put aside their differences and work together to strengthen democracy in the state.

Oluseye said the approaching election required all political stakeholders to stand together in promoting peaceful participation and safeguarding the credibility of the electoral process.

“It is time for us to stand strong as a united front, advocating for fairness, integrity and respect within our political processes,” he said.

He appealed to members to prioritise their common goal of building a stronger democratic system, saying unity among political parties remained essential to ensuring credible elections.

“As we move into this critical electoral phase, I urge all members within our state to unite. We must put aside our differences and focus on our shared purpose of building a better tomorrow for our democracy,” Oluseye stated.

The caretaker chairman emphasised that every eligible voter deserved an opportunity to participate in the electoral process, adding that stakeholders should work collectively to promote transparency and public confidence.

“It is our collective responsibility to ensure that every voice is heard, every vote counted and every citizen is empowered. Let us work hand in hand to create an electoral environment that reflects the true will of the people, fostering trust and transparency at every turn,” he said.

Oluseye also called for greater cooperation among political parties, saying the diversity of opinions within the state should be embraced rather than allowed to create divisions.

“Together, we can cultivate a culture of cooperation and collaboration, where the diverse voices of our communities are not just represented but celebrated,” he added.

The caretaker chairman expressed appreciation to the national leadership of IPAC for intervening to end the prolonged leadership vacuum in the Osun State chapter, saying the action had restored direction to the council ahead of the election.

He said the proactive intervention by the national secretariat had provided a foundation for the council to continue its constitutional responsibilities, assuring members that the caretaker committee would administer the affairs of IPAC in accordance with its constitution.

Oluseye, who expressed confidence that unity and adherence to constitutional principles would strengthen the electoral process and contribute to a resilient democracy in the state, urged members to remain committed to one another and to the democratic ideals of the council.
