The Benue State Police Command says it has dismantled two illegal firearm manufacturing factories in Buruku and Kwande local government areas of the state and arrested suspected gunrunners in separate operations aimed at curbing the proliferation of illicit weapons.

The Commissioner of Police, Cletus Nwadiobu, disclosed this while briefing journalists on Friday in Makurdi on the command’s recent operational successes against violent crimes across the state.

Nwadiobu said police operatives raided an illegal firearm manufacturing facility in Buruku Local Government Area, where one suspect was arrested and two locally fabricated AK-47 rifles, along with firearm manufacturing tools and accessories, were recovered.

He said another operation in Adikpo, Kwande Local Government Area, led to the arrest of a second suspect and the recovery of five locally fabricated English pistols.

According to the police commissioner, the suspects are in custody and will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

In another operation, Nwadiobu said the command dismantled a suspected armed robbery gang linked to a series of violent crimes in Buruku Local Government Area and neighbouring communities.

He explained that operatives of the Operation Zenda Crack Squad acted on credible intelligence received on July 13, 2026, and arrested Ephraim Tertseagh Yough, 35, who was allegedly conducting surveillance in preparation for another attack.

The police commissioner said the suspect subsequently provided useful information that led operatives to the gang’s hideout at Kusuv in Buruku Local Government Area.

He said a follow-up operation carried out in the early hours of July 16 resulted in the arrest of five additional suspects.

Nwadiobu said the operation also led to the recovery of one K2 rifle and a cutlass allegedly used by the gang during its operations.

He said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects were linked to several cases of armed robbery, violent attacks and the killing of residents, including the murder of a trader in Buruku Local Government Area in December 2025.

The commissioner added that investigations were ongoing to determine the full extent of the syndicate’s activities and apprehend other fleeing members.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information capable of preventing crime and protecting lives and property.

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two suspected informants allegedly linked to a kidnapping attack in Alkaleri Local Government Area of the state.

The suspects, identified as 18-year-old Idi Riga of Gwanar Dutse Village and 22-year-old Murtala Sani of Rifta Unguwan Jauro Musa in Gobirawo Ward, were arrested on August 2, 2026, during a police operation.

According to the command, the arrest followed an attack by unknown gunmen on the residence of a 46-year-old man in Gwanar Dutse Village, Gwana District, Alkaleri LGA, on July 31.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, said the victim was shot in the right thigh while attempting to escape from the attackers and was immediately taken to the General Hospital, Kashere, where he is currently receiving treatment.

Habib said operatives attached to the Gobirawo Out-Station, led by the officer in charge, arrested the two suspects following intelligence-led investigations into the incident.

He said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects voluntarily confessed to acting as informants for the perpetrators of the attack.

“The suspects are currently in police custody, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Bauchi, for a discreet and thorough investigation with a view to prosecution,” he said.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, reaffirmed the command’s determination to tackle kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.

He also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support efforts aimed at eliminating criminal activities in Bauchi State.

Gunmen on Sunday night attacked and killed a former councillor, Daniel Danjuma, in Rim Community, Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The former councillor, who represented Rim Ward in Riyom LGA, was also known as “Hon. Star”.

The spokesperson of the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM), Twang Tengwong, confirmed the incident in a statement, condemning the attack in strong terms. He said the attackers stormed the community at about 10:45 pm on Sunday.

According to Tengwong, the BYM, under the leadership of its National President, Barr. Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, was saddened by the latest attack, which claimed the life of a former legislator in Riyom LGA, describing it as unacceptable.

The statement explained that villages in Torok, Rim Community, Riyom Local Government Area, were attacked by gunmen, who invaded the area in large numbers at about 10:45 pm on August 2, 2026, killing Daniel Danjuma Chong (aka Hon. Star), a former councillor representing Rim Ward.

According to the group, “The attackers came from Kess, popularly known as Bangai-Fulani, and invaded the community while shooting sporadically.”

It further alleged that one Mr David Dachollom Danjuma also sustained a fatal gunshot injury during the attack before the assailants fled the area.

The group called on security agencies and the Plateau State Government to rise to the occasion and ensure the arrest of those responsible so that justice could prevail for the victim. It also extended condolences to the family of the deceased and the people of Torok Community.

The group condemned the continued killing of innocent citizens, describing it as unacceptable, and urged the authorities to ensure that those responsible were brought to justice while sustaining security efforts in the area and across the state.

DSP Alabo Alfred, the Plateau State Police spokesperson, is yet to officially comment on the incident.
