Celtic are now confident of beating their Scottish Premiership rivals, Rangers, to a new signing in the coming days.

The two Glasgow clubs often go head-to-head when it comes to new additions, considering their shared stature in the game.

Celtic might have the advantage over Rangers in the transfer market this summer, after they lifted the Scottish Premiership title last season and qualified for the Champions League.

Unfortunately for Rangers, Celtic have often been the more attractive prospect, although Derek McInnes’s side have enjoyed a very busy summer window so far.

It’s been a fairly slow window for Celtic as they carefully assess potential targets ahead of the new season.

Celtic confident of beating Rangers to signing

According to a report from Team Talk, Celtic are confident of reaching an agreement to beat Rangers to the signing of Fares Ghedjemis in the summer transfer window.

Martin O’Neill’s side have already seen an opening offer of around £6m for the Frosinone winger rejected, but they are confident of reaching an agreement eventually.

Frosinone are holding out for a fee in the region of £8 million in order to allow Ghedjemis to depart. Talks are ramping up, with negotiations ongoing on Monday.

Rangers are another side who remain interested, but Celtic are ahead of them in the race as it stands.

The prospect of playing in Europe is appealing to Ghedjemis, and he is willing to force a move in order to tempt his club into a sale.

Rangers are going to find it incredibly difficult when battling against Celtic for new additions in the summer transfer window.

Celtic are managed by O’Neill, who showed he has what it takes to lift a Scottish Premiership title last season. Players will be attracted by the prospect of playing in the Champions League.

Rangers are a bit of an unknown at the moment after appointing Derek McInnes, and they don’t have Champions League football to offer.

It’s been a busy summer window for Rangers, but it’s unclear if any of their new signings picked them over Celtic over the last few months.

It’s been a remarkable period for FIFA boss Gianni Infantino as he has managed to lose the support of many within the footballing community. It now appears as though United States President Donald Trump is the latest to turn on him.

Infantino spent much of the build-up to the 2026 World Cup cosying up to Trump, and even drew criticism when he wore a MAGA-style hat months prior to the summer tournament. There were then more questions about their relationship when FIFA intervened to suspend USMNT striker Folarin Balogun’s red card ban, allowing him to play against Belgium.

This left many unhappy with Infantino, but the FIFA president may well have gone a step too far with his plans to privatise the World Cup. European footballing body UEFA have led the way, rejecting the scheme and declaring a lack of confidence in the football administrator.

Infantino Has Tried to Reach out to US President Trump

With Infantino’s job at risk, reports from The New York Post state that he has turned to the Trump administration to help keep him in office. It’s noted that he has scheduled private talks with Secretary of State Marco Rubio amid growing pressure.

One source revealed: “He wanted to get online with the secretary and talk about how soccer can be a form of soft power for America. But we all know that it is about job protection. It is not about anything else at this point.”

Another source has claimed that Infantino feels “isolated” by the backlash in the media, adding: “He is looking for allies of note to publicly support him.”

Worringly for the FIFA boss, however, it doesn’t appear as though he is getting much support from Trump right now. As per The New York Post, with Infantino repeatedly trying to phone him for support, Trump’s response has been to simply ignore the calls.

It wasn’t so long ago that the two appeared to have a great relationship. Trump’s private rejection of Infantino’s phone calls is rather eye-opening now. It’s worth noting that the State Department has also denied that any call between the football administrator and Trump’s administration has taken place.

Trump’s Lack of Support Appears Public and Private

Trump has a direct link to the FIFA World Cup sale plan, with Joshua Kushner the man said to be ‘bankrolling’ the scheme. Kushner just so happens to be the brother of Jared Kushner, who is the US President’s son-in-law.

Despite this, Trump has denied discussing the proposal with Infantino, insisting the topic had not come up between the pair. When publicly quizzed about it all, he stated: “I never spoke to him.”

With Trump seemingly distancing himself from the now-abandoned project, and not willing to take Infantino’s calls personally, it doesn’t look as though the FIFA boss will get any support from the administration as he looks to hold onto his job. Adding to this, US Soccer were more than happy to support CONCACAF’s call to reject the proposal.

The Football Association of Wales have now become the first nation to withdraw support for Infantino, with many more expected to follow. European nations such as Sweden and Serbia, for example, have also since shared statements as confidence in the current FIFA president dwindles.

He was expected to run unopposed in the March 2027 elections, but this looks unlikely now.

West Ham have opened talks to sign another Sunderland star alongside Wilson Isidor, according to Sky Sports.

West Ham have been linked with a move to sign Sunderland striker Isidor in the summer transfer window, with reports suggesting that he could be available for around £20 million this summer.

The Hammers are looking to build a squad capable of gaining promotion straight back to the Premier League after they were relegated last season.

Thankfully for Nuno Espirito Santo, they have managed to keep hold of a large portion of their key stars so far, despite losing Crysencio Summerville and Mateus Fernandes.

Jarrod Bowen committed himself to West Ham despite their relegation, which was a huge boost for the club.

West Ham open Sunderland talks

According to a report from Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie, West Ham have opened talks to sign Sunderland winger Simon Adingra on a potential loan move in the summer transfer window.

West Ham’s approach for the Ivory Coast international is believed to be under discussion.

Adingra made the move to Sunderland last summer for a fee of around £20 million from fellow Premier League side Brighton, before spending the second half of last season on loan at French side Monaco.

West Ham set to lose highly-rated midfielder

West Ham look set to lose one of their young midfielders, with Freddie Potts closing in on a £10 million deal with Club Brugge.

Potts has been given permission to travel for a medical as he edges closer to leaving the club this summer.

The 22-year-old recently spoke about how he was looking forward to trying to help the Hammers get back to the Premier League, but just weeks later he is set to depart.

West Ham clearly felt that £10 million was good value for an academy player, which would represent pure profit on the books in terms of transfer regulations.
