The death of a 17-year-old boy, identified as Sesugh, has sparked outrage in Benue State, with activist and social commentator Ukan Kurugh accusing the police of attempting to distort facts surrounding the incident.

Kurugh, in a statement shared online, alleged that the teenager was killed “in broad daylight” in the presence of witnesses, stressing that the victim’s family is now enduring more pain due to what he described as false narratives and efforts to cover up the truth.

He criticised the spokesperson of the Benue State Police Command, accusing the command of focusing on propaganda rather than ensuring justice for the deceased teenager.

“A young boy died, a mother is crying herself to sleep. A family has been thrown into permanent pain yet your priority is propaganda instead of justice,” he stated.

The activist further alleged that security authorities were trying to shield influential persons while ordinary citizens continue to suffer, insisting that no official explanation can silence “the voice of innocent blood.”

The incident has continued to generate reactions across the state, with several residents demanding an independent probe into the circumstances that led to the teenager’s death.

Meanwhile, the Benue State Police Command had earlier stated that operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Makurdi, arrested three suspects James Onuh, Atser Sesugh, and Solomon Aondoakura Orhena on April 28, 2026, over alleged fraud and cybercrime activities.

According to the police, the suspects later escaped from lawful custody at the EFCC facility in Makurdi on May 4, 2026, before going into hiding.

However, Kurugh maintained that justice must be served, warning that “all evil has an expiry date and time.”

A young politician and community mobilizer in Ebubu, Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State, Samuel Obe Ngobe, has been killed by gunmen suspected to be assassins.

DAILY POST gathered on Monday that the incident occurred on May 22 when the assailants invaded a hotel in the community owned by the deceased and shot him dead.

The two suspects, who were masked, invaded the area on a motorbike and went straight to the politician and opened fire on him.

It was also gathered that the assailants carted away cell phones from the hotel workers to prevent them from raising an alarm.

When contacted by DAILY POST on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Command, Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, confirmed the killing.

The PPRO said, “Investigation is ongoing on the matter”.

Bandits have reportedly abducted Auwal Mas’ud Shitu, a 300-level Pure and Industrial Chemistry student at Umaru Musa Yar’adua University, Katsina State.

The incident was disclosed on Monday in a post on X by Bakatsine, a journalist who reports on conflict and insecurity in Nigeria’s northwest.

Bakatsine wrote that Shitu was kidnapped on Sunday, May 17, 2026, while travelling from Charanchi to Dutsin-Ma. 

According to the report, the abductors are now demanding N20 million ransom, an amount the family reportedly cannot afford.

He wrote: “Bandits have abducted Auwal Mas’ud Shitu, a 300-level Pure & Industrial Chemistry student at Umaru Musa Yar’adua University, Katsina State.

“He was reportedly kidnapped on Sunday, May 17, 2026, while travelling from Charanchi to Dutsin-Ma. The abductors are demanding ₦20 million ransom, an amount the family reportedly cannot afford.

“Friends and relatives are appealing for prayers as insecurity continues to tighten its grip on communities across northern Nigeria.

“How many more students must be taken before authorities confront the worsening kidnapping crisis?”
