Nigerian troops of the 247 Reconnaissance Battalion, C Company, Mubi, Adamawa State, have arrested a 43-year-old suspected terrorist collaborator during a cordon-and-search operation in Mubi South Local Government Area.

Counter-insurgency and security expert in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, disclosed the arrest in a post on X on Tuesday.

Makama noted that the operation was conducted on Sunday, August 9, 2026, in Girpata and Wurobululude communities in Mubi South, in collaboration with Keystone and local hunters.

Makama stated that the suspect, identified as Yahaya Adamu, was arrested by the troops in the Girpata area.

According to a military source, Adamu was taken into custody for further investigation to establish his alleged links and activities with terrorist elements.

The operation is part of ongoing efforts by security forces to identify and disrupt terrorist support networks operating within communities in the North-East.

Troops of Sector 1, Operation ENDURING PEACE (OPEP), have rescued two kidnap victims abducted by armed criminals in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The victims, identified as Samson Chiroma and Nathaniel Nwase, were kidnapped at about 11:00 p.m. on August 9 while returning to their residence at the ECWA Staff Quarters in Jos North.

A military source told Zagazola Makama that troops, working with members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), immediately launched a pursuit operation after receiving a distress report.

“The troops subsequently established contact with the kidnappers, who, overwhelmed by the superior firepower of the security forces, abandoned the victims and fled into the surrounding mountains,” the source said.

The source added that the troops successfully rescued both victims unhurt and reunited them with their families.

“The victims were rescued safely and subsequently reunited with their families,” the source said.

However, the criminals reportedly escaped with a laptop and two mobile phones belonging to the victims.

The source said security forces had sustained a manhunt for the fleeing kidnappers.

“Efforts are ongoing to track and apprehend the perpetrators,” the source added.

The latest operation highlights the continued collaboration between security forces and local vigilante groups in responding to kidnapping incidents and protecting residents in vulnerable communities across Plateau State.

Operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit, VCRU, of Ekiti State Police Command have arrested three suspects for unlawful possession of firearms, cultism and belonging to an unlawful society.

The suspects were identified as Aluko Mayowa, 33, Oparinde Samuel, 34 and Mukaila Akintayo,  37.

This was contained in a statement signed and made available to journalists by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu.

Parts of the statement read, “Preliminary investigation indicates that the suspects are members of the Eiye Secret Confraternity and have made statements admitting their alleged membership, as well as their respective positions and roles within the group.

“Following their arrest, the operatives conducted thorough searches of their residences and premises, during which the following exhibits were recovered: one locally made pistol, one UTC axe, one iron-made dangerous axe, one jackknife, and one cutlass.

“Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other suspects currently at large, while investigation continues to unravel the activities and network of the suspected cult group in the State.

“The Commissioner of Police, Ekiti State Command, CP FALADE ADEGOROYE MICHAEL, reiterates the Command’s commitment to tracking down other members of the group, as well as other criminal elements in the State, and ensuring that persons found culpable are brought to justice.”

The Ekiti police commissioner urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide credible information that could assist in preventing cultism, violent crimes and other forms of criminality across the state.
