2027: Abure led-LP announces its presidential candidate
The Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party on Saturday unveiled Prince Kennedy Ahanotu, the party’s National Youth Leader, as its presidential candidate.
The announcement was made at the faction’s presidential, governorship, and House of Representatives primaries held in Abuja on Saturday.
The National Chairman of the party, Julius Abure, was represented at the event by the Deputy National Chairman, Ayo Olorunfemi, who formally announced Ahanotu as the party’s standard-bearer.
Speaking at the event, Kennedy said he accepted the nomination with a deep sense of responsibility and an unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s progress.
“With a full sense of responsibility and unwavering commitment to our nation, I proudly accept the nomination of our great party, the Labour Party, as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
“With this consensus comes an even greater responsibility, and I pledge never to take that trust for granted.
“I look forward to working closely with all the candidates, leaders, and stakeholders across the federation to strengthen our party structures, deepen internal democracy, reconcile differences where they exist, and reposition the party.
“I call on all leaders, stakeholders, and members of the Labour Party to embrace unity, reconciliation, and collective responsibility. Our strength lies not in our differences but in our shared commitment to building a stronger party and a better Nigeria.”
“I believe that Abia State Governor, His Excellency Dr Alex Otti, should be magnanimous in victory. I will reach out to him as the presidential candidate and find a way for us to reconcile the party. I believe in the more, the merrier.
“Currently, he holds the position of governor of Abia State. This is why I believe he should be magnanimous in victory.
“The party is not meant only for Abia. It is a platform with a political structure across the country. Making it look like an Abia project is not enough.
“So, we will reach out to him because I know he is a very sound person. I am sure he will reason with me on the need to work together.
“I am also using this opportunity to invite critical party stakeholders and members to allow us to continue from where we stopped,” he said.

Kwankwasiyya movement urges unity, discipline ahead of 2027 elections
The Kwankwasiyya Movement has said that unity, discipline, and sacrifice among its members will be key to securing victory for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2027 general elections.
This was contained in a statement issued by the movement’s spokesperson, Hon. Habibu Sale Mohammed, on Saturday, where it commended members who participated in the recently concluded consensus process across various elective positions in Kano State.
The statement praised aspirants who stepped down or accepted the outcomes of the process, describing their conduct as a demonstration of loyalty and political maturity.
“The strength of any political movement lies not only in producing candidates but also in the willingness of members to place collective interests above personal ambition,” the statement said.
According to the movement, the actions of its members have further confirmed that the Kwankwasiyya Movement remains one of the most disciplined and ideologically driven political movements in Nigeria.
It also specifically commended Senator Rufai Sani Hanga for stepping aside in support of the consensus arrangement, describing his action as a rare sacrifice and a mark of true leadership.
The statement also acknowledged former Governor and Senator Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya for accepting the movement’s decision on candidates for Kano South, noting that such gestures have strengthened unity within the group.
The movement congratulated all candidates who emerged through the consensus process, including its governorship candidate, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo.
According to the statement, their emergence reflects the confidence of the leadership and members.
Kwankwasiyya further urged all candidates to see themselves not just as political contestants but as ambassadors of its ideals.
“They are expected to conduct themselves with humility, discipline, integrity, and commitment to good governance and social justice,” the statement added.
The movement called on members and supporters to remain united and focused, stressing that continued cohesion would help deliver electoral success for the NDC in 2027.
