Fire agency recovers two bodies as car plunges into river in Ibadan
Oyo State Fire Service has recovered the two bodies of two passengers from a river in Ibadan, after the vehicle they were traveling in ran into the water.
The two bodies were recovered from Ariyo river along Amuloko, in Ona Ara Local Government Area of the state on Friday.
It was learnt that the incident involved a Toyota Avensis with an unknown registration number. The car lost control and ran into the river.
Chairman of Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident.
Akinwande in a statement made available to DAILY POST on Saturday explained that the two bodies have been handed over the Nigeria Police Force.
“On arrival, it was confirmed that the vehicle had swerved off the road and submerged in the river. The rescue team immediately commenced the operations by applying all necessary rescue operational procedures and successfully recovered two casualties from the vehicle.
“The victims were subsequently handed over to the officers of Nigeria Police Force led by ASP Adesuwa Sesan from Ogbere Target police Station. Ibadan for further necessary action,” the statement said.

Osun police arrest four over attempted murder, firearms possession
Osun State Police Command has arrested four suspects in connection with alleged conspiracy, attempted murder, assault occasioning harm and unlawful possession of prohibited firearms in Modakeke, Ife East Local Government Area.
The suspects were arrested following a petition addressed to the Commissioner of Police over the alleged offences.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said in a statement on Thursday that police operatives apprehended the suspects at about 2 a.m. on August 9, 2026.
The command identified the suspects as Olufemi Olatunji, 39; Ajayi Idowu, 31; Akingbala Oluwakemi, 40; and Adekunle Basirat, 40.
Police said searches conducted at the suspects’ residences and premises resulted in the recovery of two firearms, including a locally made cut-to-size firearm and a pump-action firearm.
According to the command, the locally made firearm was recovered from Basirat’s shop, while the pump-action firearm was recovered from Oluwakemi’s residence.
The police said Basirat was identified as the wife of Solomon Akinlabi, also known as “Indomine,” while Oluwakemi was identified as the wife of Akingbala Akindele, alias “Ostand.”
“The suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting the police with the ongoing investigation,” the statement said.
In a separate operation, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit arrested six suspected members of an unlawful society following information about an alleged invasion of the campus of the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, by armed hoodlums, during which two students were reportedly injured.
The six suspects were identified as Ajoba Akorede, 27; Adam Oseni, 27; Ogunrinde Ayomide, 21; Ogunlana Muheez, 26; Ajose Noah, 25; and Adeniyi Damola, 25.
The command said Akorede and Oseni confessed during interrogation to being members of the Aye confraternity, adding that it had not verified whether they were students of the institution.
The police, who said investigations into both cases were ongoing, added that the suspects would be charged in court upon completion of the investigations, while efforts were continuing to apprehend other suspects allegedly connected with the Modakeke case.

18-year-old dies after falling into pond in Kano
An 18-year-old man, Abdullahi Aminu, has died after falling into a pond at Kofar Gabas in Danbatta Local Government Area of Kano State.
The Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday.
According to the statement, the incident occurred on Tuesday at about 3:28 p.m.
The Fire Service said it received a distress call from Aminu Lawan, who reported that his son had fallen into a pond.
“Upon receiving the report, our personnel from the Danbatta Fire Station immediately mobilised to the scene,” the statement said.
The firefighters recovered the victim from the pond unconscious and took steps to revive him. However, he was later confirmed dead.
The statement added that the deceased was subsequently handed over to the Secretary to the District Head of Danbatta, Alhaji Baba Ado Sarkin Bai, for further necessary action.
The Fire Service sympathised with the family of the deceased over the tragic incident.
The agency also urged residents to exercise caution around ponds, waterways and other bodies of water, particularly during the rainy season.

Bauchi Police arrest man over alleged theft of solar panels
The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old man, Emmanuel Jacob, in connection with the alleged theft of seven solar panels belonging to the Federal Government Girls’ College, Bauchi.
The command said four of the stolen panels had been recovered from the suspect, while efforts were ongoing to recover the remaining three and apprehend those who received the stolen items.
Spokesman of the command, SP Nafiu Habib, in a statement issued in Bauchi said the case was promptly reported and handled by operatives of ‘A’ Division, Township, Bauchi, as part of the command’s efforts under the Safe School Initiative to combat property-related crimes around educational institutions.
“Accordingly, one Emmanuel Jacob, a 26-year-old male of Federal Government Girls’ College, Bauchi, was arrested in connection with the theft of seven solar panels belonging to the school,” the statement read.
He added that “during investigation and subsequent operations, four out of the seven stolen solar panels were successfully recovered from the suspect.”
According to the police spokesman, investigations are ongoing to recover the remaining panels and identify and arrest the receiver or receivers involved in disposing of the stolen property.
He said the suspect remained in police custody and would be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
