Speaking on the incident, he said: “My name is Sharafa Lasisi. I am from Alamisi Unit 6. I am 55 years old. I have been to where they are supposed to verify my face, but they said the network isn’t letting the verification go through.”

According to him, election officials initially advised him to return later after the issue was expected to be resolved. However, the problem persisted when he came back to the polling unit.

“They said I should go and eat at home. I went and came back and it still didn’t go through,” he added.

Lasisi urged INEC officials to intervene promptly so that he could exercise his constitutional right to vote.

“I want them to help me so I will be able to cast my vote also,” he appealed.

The incident raises concerns over technical and network challenges affecting voter accreditation in some polling units in the Osun governorship election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, announced that 2,339,233 residents are registered to vote.

The election features 15 political parties, although only a few candidates have actively campaigned across the state.

At the forefront is the incumbent, Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is running under the Accord. He is being challenged by Bola Oyebamiji, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and Najeem Salaam, representing the African Democratic Congress, ADC.

He was reacting to comments by an Islamic cleric, Shiekh Sani Yahaya Jingir, who spoke in support of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket.

Okonkwo insisted that Muslim and Christians must be accommodated in the presidency as the President and Vice President.

He wrote: “The Same-Faith ticket is a no-no for Nigeria of today. It is against Sections 14(3), 42, and 15(2)(3)(d) of the 1999 Constitution.

“With the recent comment by one Shiekh Sani Yahaya Jingir that he will repeat his support for a Muslim-Muslim ticket in 2027 to sustain the unconstitutional dominance and enslavement of others by people of his own faith, it has become imperative for all faithful Muslims and Christians to reject the Same-Faith ticket for the overall unity and sustenance of our democracy and our country.

“The presidency is an association between the President and the Vice, and every association must cut across religious barriers.

“(See section 15(3)(d) of the 1999 Constitution). Muslims and Christians must be accommodated in the presidency as the President or Vice.”
