Why Anambra will vote for Tinubu in 2027 – Soludo
Governor Charles Soludo has said that Anambra State and the All Progressives Grand Alliance would support President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Soludo made the declaration while addressing members of the City Boy Movement, Anambra State Chapter.
The governor said his political decisions are guided by the interests of Anambra people and the Igbo nation, stressing that he believes in what he described as the “politics of evidence.”
He cited the Federal Government’s approval of the state’s proposed aerotropolis as a Free Economic Trade Zone as an example of the benefits of cooperation with the current administration.
According to him, the approval was granted in what he described as the fastest response he had witnessed from the Federal Government.
Soludo also said that although APGA remains a separate political party, it shares progressive ideals with the ruling party and should work with the Federal Government for the benefit of the South-East region.
The governor maintained that progressive political forces must collaborate to advance the interests of the Igbo people and accelerate development in Anambra State.
Soludo said: “You don’t take second position in politics. I don’t play that kind of politics. The Politics I want to play is for the interest of Ndi Anambra, and the Igbo.
“I only play politics of evidence.
“The President in a fastest approval I have ever seen, he designated our aero metropolis as a free economic trade zone. That’s politics.
“Despite the fact that we are in APGA, we understand it that progressives have to work together for the good of Igbo.”

ADC aspirants reject Kano primaries, demand probe into candidate selection process
Some aspirants of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kano State have rejected the party’s recently conducted primaries for the 2027 general elections, alleging that the process lacked credibility and violated internal democratic procedures.
The aggrieved aspirants made their position known during a press conference in Kano on Tuesday, where they questioned the legitimacy of the exercise that reportedly produced the party’s candidates.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Hon. Wada Masu said the aspirants did not recognize the outcome of the primaries, insisting that no valid election took place.
According to him, the aspirants were still undergoing the party’s screening process on May 21, 2026, the same day the primary elections were said to have been conducted.
“We called this press conference to formally express our deep concern and dissatisfaction regarding the purported primary elections said to have been conducted in Kano State for the African Democratic Congress on the 21st of May, 2026.
“It is important to clearly state that on the same day the so-called primary elections were said to have taken place, all aspirants were participating in the screening exercise. This development alone raises serious questions about the legitimacy and transparency of the exercise claimed to have been conducted.”
The aspirants further claimed that the party’s elections committee invited all contestants to a consensus meeting on May 22, a day after the alleged primaries.
According to them, the invitation stated that if consensus efforts failed, primary elections would subsequently be conducted, a development they said contradicted claims that a valid primary election had already taken place.
“In addition, the elections committee officially invited all aspirants on the 22nd of May, 2026, for a consensus meeting, with clear communication that if consensus failed, primary elections would subsequently be conducted. This directly contradicts the claim that a valid primary election had already taken place on the 21st of May, 2026,” the group stated.
They argued that the alleged irregularities posed a threat to internal democracy, fairness, justice and the credibility of the party.
The aspirants called on the national leadership of the ADC and other relevant stakeholders to intervene by investigating the matter and ensure fair, lawful and transparent process.
They warned that failure to address their concerns could disenfranchise party members and trigger avoidable disputes within the party.
“Our struggle is not against any individual, but for justice, transparency and the protection of democratic principles within our party,” they said.
“We remain law-abiding, committed party members, and we believe that fairness and due process must prevail.”
The ADC leadership in Kano State had yet to respond to the allegations as of the time of filing this report.

Rivers Guber: Chinda’s ‘belated defection’ grounds for disqualification – Legislative lawyers
Lawyers under the umbrella of Association of Legislative Drafting and Advocacy Practitioners, ALDRAP, have described the announcement of Kingsley Chinda’s move from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC, during plenary at the House of Representatives on Tuesday as a “belated defection” that justifies their call for his disqualification from contesting the governorship election in Rivers States in 2027.
ALDRAP, whose members include constituents of the lawmaker who represents Obio/Akpor Federal Constituency of Rivers State, made the assertion in a statement released shortly after Chinda’s defection and resignation was announced at the National Assembly on Tuesday. The lawyers equally asked the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to provide the membership register of the APC as at May 10, 2026.
ALDRAP had filed a lawsuit, asking an Abuja Federal High Court to stop the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, from recognizing Chinda as the APC candidate for the 2027 gubernatorial poll in Rivers State.
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbass, read a letter announcing Chinda’s resignation from the PDP and defection to the APC during plenary on Tuesday, June 2, 2026 – nearly two weeks after the lawmaker won the APC governorship primary election in Rivers State, held on May 21, 2026. The letter also announced Chinda’s resignation as Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, a position he attained due to his membership of the PDP.
Chinda’s defection letter was dated April 23, 2026, indicating that he had already resigned from the PDP and defected to the APC before the May 21, 2026 APC gubernatorial primary election in Rivers State.
Sources at the National Assembly revealed that he actually defected before the lawmakers went on recess.
However, the official announcement of the defection came after ALDRAP had, in a Freedom of Information request dated May 26, 2026, asked the Speaker of the House of Representatives to produce evidence that a letter notifying the House of the Rep’s defection was read on the floor during plenary, before his participation in the APC Rivers primary and emergence as gubernatorial candidate.
According to the Supreme Court, for a lawmaker’s defection to be deemed as valid, there has to be a formal announcement of the defection, during plenary, by the presiding officer of the legislature.
ALDRAP had in its lawsuit asked INEC to reject Chinda as Rivers APC governorship candidate on the grounds that his defection was inconsistent with the provisions of Section 68 (1) (g) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, and pronouncements of the Supreme Court of Nigeria on defection of legislators.
Insisting on the illegality of the defection despite Tuesday’s announcement by the Speaker, ALDRAP, in a letter addressed to INEC chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, dated June 2, 2026, demanded, in line with the Freedom of Information Act, 2011, for the membership register of the APC in Rivers State as at May 10, 2026. In the letter signed by Jesse Williams Amuga, Esq., its administrative secretary, ALDRAP argued that Chinda’s name was submitted in violation of provisions of the Electoral Act, 2026.
Parts of the letter read, “We write as lawyers to the constituents of Hon. Kingsley Ogundu Chinda who represents Ohio/Akpor Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, National Assembly. Our Incorporated Trustees of the Association of Legislative Drafting and Advocacy Practitioners (ALDRAP) has filed a public interest lawsuit on behalf of constituents of the said Hon. Chinda.
“We write to request both hard copy and electronic copy of the Register of the APC as at 10th May 2026.
“This request is brought pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, 2011 and as requirement of Section 84 of the Evidence Act, 2011. We seek to tender the said said CTC in the lawsuit against Hon. Chinda at the Federal High Court Abuja.
“It has just been reported that today, 2nd June 2026 is the date that Hon. Chinda’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was announced on the floor of the National Assembly during plenary session. This is a violation of both Section 68 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 and the judgment of the Supreme Court of Nigeria dated 28th February 2025.
“It also constitutes a violation of Section 77 (5) of the Electoral Act, 2026 because he is joining the APC after the APC had already submitted it’s Register of Members to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on 10th May 2026. Also, there is no evidence of the dates of acceptance of his resignation by the PDP at the ward level in Rivers State and issuance of a new membership by the APC in Rivers State at the ward level.
“It is important to note that by virtue of a judgment of the Court of Appeal dated 29th May 2026, the Emeka Beke-led faction of the APC is the recognised APC in Rivers State, whereas Hon. Kingsley Ogundu Chinda registered with the Tony Okocha-led faction of the APC in Rivers State.
“Let us conclude that all the foregoing demands are made as public interest disclosures and requests in furtherance of our ongoing public interest lawsuit at the Federal High Court, Abuja. A copy of the lawsuit is enclosed.”

2027: Babachir considers voting for Sowore, rules out APC, ADC, NDC

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, has said he may consider voting for activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore in the 2027 election, while ruling out support for the All Progressives Congress (APC), the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Lawal made the remarks during an interview with TVC after announcing his resignation from the ADC, citing alleged irregularities in the party’s presidential primary that produced former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as its candidate.
Asked whether he considered a potential Peter Obi-Rabiu Kwankwaso ticket a viable alternative in 2027, Lawal said he was unimpressed by the major political options currently on the table.
“I found myself between the devil and the devil, the other side is the devil. Whatever I choose, I end up with the devil, meaning that as bad as Bola Tinubu is now, Atiku will be a worse president,” he said.
The former SGF, however, stressed that his criticism of both President Bola Tinubu and Atiku should not be interpreted as an endorsement of any other candidate.
“It doesn’t mean I have to support anybody. I have retired from politics; I am not canvassing for anybody,” he said.
Lawal said he would exercise his constitutional right to vote when the time comes but has yet to settle on a preferred candidate.
“I have one vote to myself when the time comes. I might even vote for Sowore; there are other guys coming up who I believe would handle Nigeria better,” he added.
The former SGF also disclosed that he had already decided which political parties would not receive his support in the next presidential election.
Asked whether he had made up his mind on who to vote for in 2027, Lawal responded: “At least, I’ve made a choice to eliminate. I have eliminated APC, now I have eliminated ADC and I can tell you categorically that I have eliminated NDC.”
Lawal recently resigned from the ADC, alleging that the party’s presidential primary was manipulated in favour of Atiku.
The former SGF also accused the party leadership of compromising the electoral process and claimed that results were altered to favour the former vice president, allegations the ADC has denied.
