14 Brigade troops arrest three suspected arms dealers, recover arms

Troops of Headquarters 14 Brigade, Nigerian Army, under Operation Eastern Sanity II, have said that they arrested three suspected arms dealers and recovered weapons and ammunition in Arochukwu Local Government Area of Abia State.

The development was disclosed in a press release issued by Mazinho Attah, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 14 Brigade Nigerian Army, Ohafia, Abia State.

According to the 14 Brigade, the operation, which was conducted in the early hours of June 7, 2026, saw troops of 14 Brigade Garrison and 14 Military Intelligence Regiment carry out a cordon-and-search operation at Amaetiti Iheshiowa community in Arochukwu LGA in conjunction with other security agencies.

He said the operation was based on credible intelligence regarding the proliferation of arms and ammunition within the community.

During the operation, the Nigerian Army said that three suspects identified as Francis Ifere (37), Oso Kalu (40), and Ifere Oti (32) were apprehended.

It listed the items recovered from the suspects to include seven locally fabricated Dane guns, 22 live cartridges, one motorcycle, and a bus allegedly belonging to one Stephen Kalu, which was impounded after the owner fled before the arrival of troops.

The press release further stated that troops across the various battalion areas continued to conduct night patrols and routine security operations aimed at denying criminal elements freedom of action and ensuring the safety of lives and property.

Fire guts building in Osun [VIDEO]

There was pandemonium at the Old Garage area of Osogbo, Osun State, when a fire outbreak occurred with emergency responders working to contain the blaze.

A video sighted by DAILY POST on Sunday showed firefighters at the scene as thick smoke billowed from the affected area.

According to report, the fire broke out within the Old Garage axis, adding that two petrol stations were located close to the scene.”

When contacted, the Osun State Command of the Federal Fire Service confirmed the incident.

“Yes, it is true. The fire investigative department is there,” Federal Fire Service said.

There was no official information on the cause of the fire or whether any casualties had been recorded at the time of filing this report.

Bandit attacks leave four dead, travellers abducted in Zamfara

Fresh violence has been reported in Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, where at least four people were killed in separate attacks and several travellers were allegedly abducted.

According to security analyst Bakatsine on X, “Reports indicate that three people were killed moment ago while working on their farms, two residents of Zurmi town and one from a nearby village.”

The security situation reportedly worsened with gunmen’s attack on Baichen Dauran community.

Bakatsine stated, “Last night, bandits reportedly stormed Baichen Dauran community in the LGA and killed one person.”

The attack was reportedly followed by another incident along a nearby road.

“The same night, travelers were allegedly abducted along the road near Baichen Dauran, including a commercial driver from Zurmi, Kabiru Takaye,” Bakatsine wrote

Residents of Zurmi and surrounding communities are said to be living in fear as recurring attacks continue to threaten lives and livelihoods.

Authorities in Zamfara State had yet to issue an official statement on the incidents at the time of filing this report.

Kidnappers of ex-Minister Adelabu’s sister, sons nabbed in rescue operation [Photos]

The suspected kidnappers of Mrs Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, the younger sister of former Nigerian Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and her 12-year-old twin sons have been identified following a police rescue operation.

Adegoke and her sons, Peter and Paul, were rescued alive on Saturday during an operation carried out by the Nigeria Police.

According to police sources, two suspected kidnappers were killed during a gun battle with operatives, while two firearms were recovered from the suspects.

The victims were abducted on Tuesday while Mrs Adegoke was reportedly taking the children to school.

Police said sustained intelligence gathering, tracking, and tactical pressure on the kidnappers led to the confrontation and the successful rescue of the victims.

A video of the rescue operation has since surfaced online, showing moments from the operation that Mrs Adegoke and her children were released.
