Thomas Tuchel Slammed by World Cup Legend For France vs England Comments
Thomas Tuchel has been slammed by World Cup legend Davor Suker for his comments ahead of England’s third-place play off against France.
The Three Lions’ bid to become world champions for the first time since 1966 came to an end this week as they were beaten by Argentina in the semi-finals.
Despite that crushing defeat, England were back in action on Saturday evening to contest their third-place play off match against France at Miami Stadium.
Bukayo Saka (3), Jude Bellingham, Ezri Konsa and Declan Rice were all on the scoresheet as England won a thrilling match 6-4.
Thomas Tuchel Downplays Third Place Play Off
Tuchel made his feelings very clear about the third place play off ahead of Saturday’s match. He said:
“None of our players and none of the French players want to play this match. We demand the most of ourselves. That’s just the nature of being competitive. They want to play the final. We gave everything to achieve that. Everyone plays to win the World Cup, but that’s how it is.”
Ibrahima Konate echoed Tuchel’s comments, stating that ‘not one’ of France’s players wanted to play the match.
He said: “Not one of us want to play this game for third place, but we don’t have the choice. It was not the objective. How do we mobilise and motivate ourselves? Well, I believe that as French players for this team, many players would have loved to compete and play this game.
“I’m not saying it is easy. Far from it. I’ve read in the press that Tuchel said that no one wants to play this game. Well, it’s true that given the aim and objective we had.
“We wanted to play the final, but we are still representing France and it is the dream of many people to wear the shirt, the jersey, and sing the Marseillaise. Therefore, we need to respect the jersey we’re wearing.”

Davor Suker Slams Thomas Tuchel
Tuchel’s comments have gone down badly with World Cup legend, Davor Suker. Suker was part of the Croatia side that finished third at the 1998 World Cup. He won the Golden Boot that tournament after hitting the back of the net six times.
The 58-year-old said: “I think the rich don’t want to play when they lose. Some have so many trophies and are so rich that this match means nothing to them.
“My message to them is to be quiet, to respect all 211 participants, and to understand that the world doesn’t belong only to them. The world also belongs to the medium-sized nations, the small ones, and those who simply enjoy football.”
He added: “This match can be very important. After 1998 and the game against the Netherlands, we fought for third place, and today I can speak about it with pride.
“Whoever wins third place, I assure you that in 20 years, when they are older, they will certainly remember that bronze medal. That’s why, in this whole story, coach Tuchel isn’t important. He’s talking nonsense.”

Tottenham Hold Talks to Sign Harry Kane
Tottenham have reportedly opened talks to make a signing that would be by far the best of the ENIC era.
It has been an incredibly busy summer transfer window for Spurs so far, which is no surprise after such a disappointing few years.
Tottenham have finished 17th in the Premier League two seasons on the bounce, but they are doing everything possible to avoid that happening again, securing six new additions so far.
Martin Dubravka, Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes, Marcos Senesi, Andy Robertson, and Jan-Paul van Hecke have all made the move to Tottenham during the summer window, significantly bolstering Roberto De Zerbi’s options.
Despite that, their biggest signing could still be on the way, with talks open to sign one of the best players in the world.
Tottenham open talks to re-sign star
According to reports, Tottenham are ready to bring Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane back to the club in a sensational move.
Spurs have held talks over a possible deal to secure the England international, and they are being kept informed about developments around his future.
Intermediaries are believed to be sounding out a possible next destination for Kane, but it remains to be seen when that could be, with Bayern Munich looking to tie him down to a new contract.
Kane, described as ‘the best footballer in the world’ by journalist Dom Smith, is still in his absolute prime despite his age, scoring 64 goals in 56 appearances for Bayern Munich last season.
If Tottenham could secure his signature, it would be the best signing of the ENIC era, despite him already playing for the club during that period.

Tottenham desperately need Kane back
Every club in world football could do with a player of Kane’s calibre at their club, but a return to Tottenham would be a phenomenal move.
Tottenham would have absolutely zero doubts that Kane would return and immediately become their best player, especially given he’s arguably improved since leaving the club.
It certainly does feel unlikely that Kane would return to Tottenham, although he may feel he has unfinished business in the Premier League.
Kane is just 47 goals behind Alan Shearer in the Premier League all-time rankings, so it could be of interest to him to break that record.

Man Utd Set to Make Move to Sign £80m Forward
Manchester United are set to make a move to sign a new winger in the summer transfer window, and it could be a better signing for the club than Youri Tielemans.
The Red Devils have confirmed three new additions in the summer transfer window so far as they look to build a squad capable of competing in the Champions League.
Goalkeeper Karl Darlow and midfield duo Tielemans and Andrey Santos have all arrived through the door at Old Trafford so far.
United are unlikely to be stopping there, though, especially with Darlow only coming in as a backup goalkeeper, leading to only the midfield getting strengthened.
Adding to their forward line could be one of their next priorities over the next few weeks.
Man Utd set to make forward move
According to reports, Manchester United are preparing to make a move to sign Athletic Club winger Nico Williams in the summer transfer window.
It would be a huge statement move from United if they were to bring Williams to Old Trafford, especially as he could cost £80 million due to a release clause.
Unfortunately for United, Williams has signed a ten-year contract with Athletic Club recently, keeping him at the club until 2035.
That certainly hints that he is happy to remain with the La Liga outfit, as he’s always remained loyal despite interest from a host of clubs.
The report does claim that United would be willing to give Williams a pay rise, while they also face competition from fellow Premier League side Chelsea.

Williams a better signing than Tielemans
United confirmed the signing of Tielemans from Aston Villa earlier this month, and it is undoubtedly a huge addition for their midfield.
The Red Devils paid a £35 million release clause to secure his signature as they look to improve their options in the middle of the park.
Despite that, if United can pull off a deal to sign Williams, who has been described as ‘absolutely frightening’, in the summer transfer window, it would certainly be a better signing.
Williams is significantly younger than Tielemans and would offer United something they don’t have: a natural winger option on the left-hand side.

Man Utd Must Sell ‘Player of the Year’ After Transfer Admission
Michael Carrick has been handed somewhat of a dilemma as one of his Manchester United players has made it clear he wants out.
The Red Devils started their pre-season on Saturday with a 1-0 defeat to EFL Championship Wrexham AFC in Helsinki. Carrick handed opportunities to players on the outskirts of the first-team as well as a debut to new signing Andrey Santos.
The loss wasn’t ideal, nor were comments made after the game by Czech goalkeeper Radek Vitek. The 22-year-old returned to the club earlier this summer after spending last season on loan at Bristol City.
Vitek Wants to Leave Man Utd
Vitek came on in the second half, replacing 40-year-old Tom Heaton and that might turn out to be his final game for United. He is unlikely to be offered regular game time next season as Senne Lammens has become Carrick’s undisputed number one.
Karl Darlow arrived as a free agent after leaving Leeds United and he’s expected to serve as backup to Lammens. That casted doubts over Vitek’s future at Old Trafford, and he has now admitted he’s keen on moving elsewhere to earn more minutes.
Vitek told reporters (via BBC Sport): “I’m ready for both (loan or permanent move), to be fair. It depends on what the club wants and also on the options. There has been a few interests on the table. We’re hoping to choose the best one and hopefully it will happen soon.”
United are clearly now in a position where they will have to either loan the young shot-stopper out or sell their academy product. He’s yet to make a single competitive appearance for the club but was extremely impressive at Bristol City.

Time For Man Utd to Sell
Vitek won Bristol City’s Player of the Season award for a superb campaign which saw him keep 12 clean sheets in 41 games. There was no clause inserted in the loan agreement between the two clubs which meant that the Robins weren’t able to sign him permanently.
The Czech’s exploits at Ashton Gate have surely led to many clubs queuing up to sign him. For United, the solution is probably to cash in on the goalkeeper rather than send him out on loan again when it’s clear he isn’t viewed as a potential number one.
Lammens is still only 24 and therefore his number one spot is unlikely to be under risk in the years to come. The Belgian endured a heartbreaking World Cup after his mistake led to his nation crashing out to Spain in the quarter-finals.
United are in a similar situation to that of Matej Kovar who had impressed at youth level but failed to win over the senior coaching staff. The club opted to sell to Bayer Leverkusen in 2023 after sending him out on loan to the likes of Burton Albion and Sparta Prague.
