Man Utd Plotting Move to Sign £40m Sander Berge From Fulham
Manchester United want one more midfielder to complete their midfield rebuild and they could turn to a Premier League star.
Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans became Michael Carrick’s first summer signings, arriving from Chelsea and Aston Villa respectively. They are part of INEOS’ overhaul in the middle of the park following Casemiro’s departure and the co-owners aren’t done there.
A new number six is on the cards and Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga have been linked. The Red Devils are believed to have re-enquired about the French duo’s possible availability.
Man Utd Eyeing Fulham’s Sander Berge
Deals for Tchouameni or Camavinga seem extremely difficult but they aren’t the only names on the shortlist. A report from The Guardian claims that Fulham’s Sander Berge has been identified as a potential option to further strengthen Carrick’s midfield.
United have previously held talks to sign Berge, including during his time at Burnley before he moved to Craven Cottage in 2023. The Norweigan has been a key man for the Cottagers and impressed during the World Cup.
The 28-year-old was a member of the Norway team that suffered a 2-1 loss to England in the quarter-finals. Unlike Tchouameni and Camavinga, he possesses Premier League experience, which might be factored into a potential pursuit.
Fulham reportedly value Berge, dubbed “tremendous”, at £40m and he has three years left on his contract at Craven Cottage. That fee makes him likely the least expensive of the midfielders who are on INEOS’ wishlist.

Man Utd Go About Midfield Rebuild The Right Way
United will be in no rush to seal a third midfield signing, given the deals for Santos and Tielemans were completed relatively early. That’s taken the pressure off their transfer chiefs and allowed them to assess all options, including checking if Tchouameni is a possibility despite signing a contract extension.
Manu Kone emerged as the top target when Ederson’s proposed switch from Atalanta fell through. The Frenchman enjoyed an impressive World Cup campaign and he has reportedly agreed on personal terms with the club.
That approach suggests INEOS are trying to get agreements sorted on the player side before making bids for any potential third midfield signing. It allows them to still explore other targets in the meantime before making a concrete move.

Tyson Fury Looks Sluggish in Untelevised Fight vs Mariusz Wach
Footage has emerged of Tyson Fury’s untelevised fight against Mariusz Wach, and it certainly makes for an interesting watch. The Gypsy King was dominant throughout the contest, outclassing the experienced Polish veteran from the opening bell in Pattaya, Thailand on Friday evening.
In the end, the referee brought the bout to a close after the seventh round, following a doctor’s examination of Wach while he was on his stool. There was little controversy surrounding the stoppage, with Fury firmly in control from start to finish. While there is no major news to come from the result itself, attention will now turn to Fury’s showdown with Anthony Joshua later this year.
Of course, it’s likely that AJ will have watched the fight from afar in some capacity, and the reaction to the clips circulating online suggests the former unified heavyweight champion could be happy with what he sees from his opponent.
Although Fury got the job done this weekend, many boxing fans have been quick to suggest he looked ‘sluggish’ and ‘overweight’ while doing so, which wouldn’t bode well with his long-awaited $100 million all-British heavyweight showdown with AJ set to take place in November. As one X user remarked (watch the footage below):
“His [Fury’s] legs are so gone, if this AJ fight doesn’t happen you best believe it’s because Fury’s realised that and knows the fights now a risk. He should have fought him years ago when there was a wide skill gap between the two.”
Another X user wrote: “Fury looks awful, wow,” as a third added: “He’s shot.” Meanwhile, a fourth continued: “Fury looks so washed, looks old, looks slow, looks like he can hardly move. Age and the beatings off Usyk has caught up with him,” as a fifth concluded: “Fury is in trouble man.”
Fury Addresses AJ Ahead of Highly-Anticipated Clash
Despite the criticism, Fury seemed positive after the warm-up win, telling reporters, as per The Sun: “I got what I needed, 100 per cent. I got some good rounds in and Mariusz is a tough man. In heavyweight boxing you can get knocked out by anybody but that is what we train for.
“People moaned about me fighting him, when I just had 12 rounds in April. But that was only my second fight in two years. I want the rounds, I want to box, I want to be active. Because it’s not just the boxing in the ring, it’s all the training and the build-up and everything that comes with it, so going into my next fight – whoever that may be – I’ll be sharp and match fit.” On his upcoming fight with AJ, he said:
“I got through my 39th test tonight, Let’s see if he can get through his. Because I think he is a sh** house, In front of 70,000 at Tottenham he never had the guts to get in the ring and face me. Now we’ll see if he has the guts, but I’m not convinced.”
Joshua and Fury are expected to finally meet towards the end of 2026, provided neither man suffers an injury or any other setback that could delay the bout. Promoters are understood to be targeting November for the long-awaited heavyweight showdown. If the fight takes place on its traditional Saturday night slot, the most likely dates are November 7, 14, 21 or 28.

Who Played, Goalscorers and Zirkzee’s Class
Manchester United came out on top with a commanding 5-0 win in their second pre-season friendly of the summer, bouncing back from their opening summer defeat to Wrexham. Michael Carrick took his men to Trondheim, in central Norway, to take on Rosenborg, who are already in season-rhythm, albeit they did just have the World Cup break. Rosenborg are currently sat mid-table in the Norwegian top flight.
Carrick put out a strong starting team, but as ever during this early summer stage, made plenty of changes to his side along the way, beginning at half-time, with United having already established a lead.
Trondheim
Who played for Man Utd vs Rosenborg?
The starting lineup included wantaway goalkeeper Radek Vitek, who also played against Wrexham, and the defence featured Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire, Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven. In midfield were Mason Mount, new boy Andrey Santos, with Patrick Dorgu and Shea Lacey on the wings, while Bryan Mbeumo and Joshua Zirkzee led the attack.
The bench featured Tom Heaton, Dermot Mee, Harry Amass, Dan Armer, Jayden Kamason, Toby Collyer, Jacob Devaney, Jack Fletcher, Tyler Fletcher, Dan Gore, Jim Thwaites, JJ Gabriel, Chido Obi, Ethan Williams.
Shaw and Maguire were replaced by Amass and Kamason at half-time, and in the 62 minute, Armer, Devaney, T. Fletcher, Gore, J. Fletcher, Collyer, Williams, Obi all came on. replacing the remaining starters with the exception of Vitek in goal. Heaton, Gabriel and Thwaites were the only unused substitutes.
What happened during Rosenborg vs Man Utd?
Debuting their new blue away kit, United took the lead in the 31st minute with Shea Lacey latching onto a superb through ball before dummying inside and curling a short into the far left corner. The Red Devils almost made it two when Yoro rose highest to head a free-kick goalwards, but his header crashed off the bar and behind.
Joshua Zirkzee made it two in the 56th minute when he played a nice one-two with Amas before beating a couple of defenders and making easy work of the keeper, sitting him down with a neat stepover and rolling home.
United made is three seven minutes after the Zirkzee goal, when Devaney tucked away a short-range effort, blasting high into the net following a corner that dropped in front of the keeper. The fourth came when Kamason bolted to the byline and delivered a firm low cross to the back post, where Amas tucked home.
Ethan Williams made it five six minutes from time when Kamason beat his man to continue a fine performance with a second assist, crossing for Williams to tuck home from close range.
What will the Rosenborg win mean for Michael Carrick’s men this season?
Above all, this was a good chance for Carrick’s men to get more fitness in their legs, and the win is a cherry on top. It will be good for some of the young players to get some minutes in, too, and among more senior players. Some players will have impressed Carrick, and even if they know they are likely to return to the youth ranks when more senior players return from holidays, it is a great chance to put themselves in Carrick’s thoughts, be it for this season or the future.
That is what pre-season is all about, but it’s not just about the kids, and players like Zirkzee will be pleased to get on the scoresheet, with the forward likely hoping to put himself in the shop window ahead of a potential move this summer.
It will be interesting to see how the United squad evolves over the course of the summer, with more new signings expected to arrive, more players expected to leave and a large group still to return from holidays following the World Cup, albeit at different dates.
Next up for Carrick’s men is a date with Atletico Madrid on August 1, and then it’s on to a date with the Champions League winners PSG a week later.

21 Greatest Graduates of Barcelona’s La Masia [Ranked]
Summary
- There has been a huge array of talent that has emerged from Barcelona’s La Masia over the years.
- Players like Pepe Reina and Mikel Arteta started their youth career at Barcelona before going on to have a successful career elsewhere.
- Midfield greats like Andreas Iniesta and Xavi graduated from the academy to become club legends.
One of the great joys of football fandom is watching a young player rise through the ranks as a talented academy player, before bursting onto the scene as a fully-fledged senior star. Just think of David Beckham at Manchester United, Raul Gonzalez at Real Madrid, Steven Gerrard at Liverpool, and even Bukayo Saka at Arsenal today.
Fortunately for Barcelona supporters, they have had a fair few examples of homegrown talents making the grade having come through their youth system. Indeed, over the years, the fabled La Masia has produced some of the finest footballers to have ever played the game at any level. And while youngsters no longer actually stay at the dormitory, those who come through the Barca academy are still viewed as La Masia graduates.
The great school of football continues to churn out promising youngsters – not least the likes of Lamine Yamal, Pau Cubarsi and Gavi who have starred under current manager Hansi Flick – but who are the Blaugrana’s biggest legends to come through their academy? Here are the 21 greatest of all time.
Ranking factors
- Success at Barcelona
- Games played for Barcelona
- Longevity of entire career
- Trophies won
- General impact on the world of football
21
Gavi
Major honours with Barcelona: 4
There is still plenty of time for Gavi to rise higher up this ranking. By the same token, it could be a little early to include the 21-year-old on this list already. However, despite his young age, the teenager has already played over 160 times for La Blaugrana.
What’s more, he helped fire his side to a league title when he played 36 times as Barca lifted the 2022/23 La Liga trophy, while winning that honour twice more since. Having also won the Golden Boy award in 2022, Gavi looks set to be at the top for many years to come where he will likely secure his status as one of La Masia’s finest products. If you’re wondering why talented young teammate Pedri isn’t on the list, it’s because the 20-year-old actually came through the Las Palmas academy before immediately joining the senior set-up in Catalonia.
20
Pau Cubarsi
Major honours with Barcelona: 3
Another young modern talent, Pau Cubarsi could be viewed as a legendary centre-back when all is said and done in his career. While still a teenager, he has already won two La Liga titles and a Copa del Rey with Barcelona, and not as a bit-part player either.
Most impressively, however, he was named as the Young Player of the Tournament at the 2026 World Cup, as he helped Spain win the biggest prize in football. He started every game, keeping seven clean sheets as his side conceded just once all summer.
19
Pepe Reina
Major honours with Barcelona: 0
Now 42 years of age and still playing in Serie A for Como, it’s easy to forget that Pepe Reina started his youth career at Barcelona. He is actually the son of Miguel Reina who also played for the Spanish club as a goalkeeper between 1966 to 1973. In the early 2000s, the younger Pepe racked up 49 senior appearances for Barca himself, before leaving.
He spent three seasons at Villarreal, before making himself known to Premier League fans with a nine-year spell at Liverpool. Time spent at other major clubs such as Napoli, Bayern Munich, AC Milan, Aston Villa, and Lazio proves just how solid he’s been as a goalkeeper over the past few decades. And it’s a testament to Reina’s longevity that he’s still playing in his 40s, having recently joined Como who are managed by another former La Masia man.
18
Marc Cucurella
Major Honours with Barcelona: 0
It’s taken some time for Marc Cucurella to get back to the top of the game since he first came through the ranks at La Masia, but now the left-back is the first-choice option for both club and country. Despite only playing one game for Los Cules, he managed to make a name for himself at Getafe and Brighton before securing his big move to Chelsea.
After an uncertain start, he has begun to flourish off the back of an excellent Euro 2024 campaign that not only saw him lift the trophy but also earn a place in the Team of the Tournament. He then went on to win the 2026 World Cup, once again making the Team of the Tournament, in the same summer that he controversially joined rivals Real Madrid. He wouldn’t have helped please Barca fans when, upon signing, he said:
“I would rather go bald than get a Barca tattoo.”
17
Mikel Arteta
Major honours with Barcelona: 0
The current Arsenal manager has steadily become one of the game’s most respected coaches since taking over in north London and his best playing years were also with the Gunners, as he captained the club in the final stages of his career. However, he did actually spend time in Barcelona when he was first starting out.
Mikel Arteta joined the Spanish giants as a 15-year-old and spent time in La Masia learning his trade alongside other talented midfielders Andres Iniesta and Xavi Hernandez. While those two went on to make it into the first team, the Arsenal boss went in another direction, spending time at Paris Saint-Germain, Rangers, Real Sociedad and Everton before joining the team he now coaches.
16
Antonio Torres
Major honours with Barcelona: 4
With over 350 appearances recorded for Barcelona, according to Transfermarkt, Antonio Torres became one of the most tenured players to graduate from the club’s youth setup and break into the first team during his time in the 1960s and the 1970s.
The defender earned just five caps for Spain but achieved notable success at the club level, winning a La Liga title in 1974 and two Spanish Cups in 1968 and 1971. He retired from football in 1976 at the club where he began his career, with a lone loan move to Hercules being the only departure he made during his playing days.
15
Pedro Rodriguez
Major honours with Barcelona: 13
Pedro is one of those players who easily slots into the criminally underrated category – after all, he never lost when scoring in a Premier League game. Having played alongside so many other attacking greats such as Lionel Messi, Neymar, Luis Suarez, and David Villa, he was often overlooked by neutrals as just another cog in the machine during his eight-season spell as a senior Barcelona player.
However, you don’t come through the academy to play over 300 games and win countless trophies without being a pretty special player. Having impressed at Chelsea in England, as well as in Italy with Roma and Lazio, Pedro has proven his talent elsewhere and deserves recognition as one of the finest La Masia products in the game to this day.
14
Albert Ferrer
Major honours with Barcelona: 8
Albert Ferrer spent the late 80s at La Masia before breaking into the senior team in 1990. Over the course of the next decade, he proved himself to be a sturdy and reliable fullback, making 382 appearances for the club in the city he was born in. A true homegrown talent, he will always be viewed fondly by fans as one of their finest-ever right-backs.
Ferrer was a regular in the team between 1990 to 1998, featuring in 221 La Liga games – winning the competition on five occasions – before heading to Chelsea. He also represented Spain on the international stage 36 times.
13
Victor Valdes
Major honours with Barcelona: 13
While fellow La Masia goalkeeper Reina left in 2002, it was around this time that Victor Valdes was emerging as a genuine contender for a first-team spot between the sticks at Camp Nou. Indeed, in 2003/04, he claimed the job and in the next season, he was the undisputed number one, helping Barca win their first La Liga title in six years.
A Champions League winner on three occasions, Valdés won it all with La Blaugrana as he kept 239 clean sheets in 536 outings for the club between 2002 and 2014. He later retired in 2018 after spells at Manchester United and then Middlesbrough but certainly spent his best years with the Spanish giants.
12
Lamine Yamal
Major honours with Barcelona: 4
He may still be a teenager, but Lamine Yamal has already shown enough to prove he is capable of leading Barcelona to a glorious era as part of the current generation. In many people’s eyes, the teenager possesses the most potential of any player to emerge from La Masia since a certain eight-time Ballon d’Or winner. However, until he fulfils that potential, he must settle for a place below some of the more established names on this list.
That being said, Yamal has already claimed a La Liga winner’s medal three times and won the European Championship – all before turning 17. A former Golden Boy recipient, he seems destined to be a future Ballon d’Or winner, and may even claim it in 2026 after winning the World Cup two years after that Euros success.
