Adeleke equally sympathised with families of victims of election-related violence, noting that political differences should never result in the loss of lives.

According to him, the proposed commission would investigate the circumstances behind the reported killings and recommend appropriate measures for culprits to be brought to book regardless of their political affiliations or positions.

The governor further stated that the commission would be constituted on Monday, immediately after the election.

“The Osun State Government expresses its deepest condolences to the families of all persons who have tragically lost their lives in incidents of violence during this election period.

“Every life lost is an Osun life. Politics should never cost anyone his or her life, irrespective of political affiliation,” Adeleke declared.

He also promised that his administration would establish a framework to support and compensate families who lost relatives in the violence, adding that the victims would also be appropriately honoured, while urging residents to look beyond the election and preserve the unity of the state.

Lukman disclosed that in the past days, the G-100 has engaged extensively with the leadership of the six participating opposition parties and the minority caucus of the House of Representatives.

DAILY POST reports that the participating opposition political parties include the African Democratic Congress, ADC; the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC; the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, among others.

According to Luman, the Summit of Opposition Political Parties, earlier scheduled for August 18, would now hold on August 31, owing to the National Peace Summit scheduled for August 18, which is expected to bring together the leadership and key stakeholders of the political parties participating in the G100 consultations.

“Following discussions with the parties and the Minority Caucus, there was a broad consensus that the G100 Summit would benefit from being held after the National Peace Summit, allowing sufficient time for further internal consultations and preparation.

“Over the past several days, the G100 has held extensive engagements with the leadership and principal stakeholders of the six participating opposition parties, as well as members of the Minority Caucus of the House of Representatives. These consultations have been frank, substantive and encouraging.

“We have been particularly encouraged by the seriousness with which the parties have approached these conversations and by the energy behind the deliberations. There is a clear recognition across the different parties that this is an important moment for Nigeria’s democracy and that the opposition must begin to engage one another with greater purpose and structure,” the statement read in part.

It added that the G100 would use the intervening period to continue consultations with the participating parties and other relevant stakeholders, and to further develop the proposals and frameworks that will be presented for consideration at the Summit.

Posting on X, Obi wrote: “Osun State: Let The People choose, let peace Prevail.”

Responding, the former presidential aide wondered if Obi would congratulate the APC governorship candidate if he wins the Saturday’s election.

Ahmad wrote: “All that you have said sounds good, Mr. Peter Obi, but the real test will come if the good people of Osun vote tomorrow and the APC eventually wins, as all indications suggest.

“We will see if you and those who share your position will come here to congratulate the winner and acknowledge that the election was credible.

“Because, unfortunately, the impression given by you and many others is that an election is considered “free and credible” only when the APC loses.

“Democracy must be respected regardless of who wins. Let the people vote and let us have the integrity to accept and congratulate the winner even when the outcome does not suit our preferred candidate.”
