Police move to arrest culprits in Taraba mob attack

The Taraba State Police Command has commenced a full-scale investigation into a violent incident in Lau Local Government Council that claimed the lives of two men, including a forest guard.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Commissioner of Police, Moorkwap Sebastian Dongshal, said he visited the scene at Mararaban Kunini for an on-the-spot assessment following what authorities described as a case of culpable homicide and retaliatory mob action.

Preliminary findings, according to him, indicated that the incident began when a Forest Guard, Jerry Jimmy, arrested a male suspect while on duty. During the arrest, a confrontation reportedly ensued, during which the suspect allegedly stabbed the officer with a knife, resulting in fatal injuries.

The suspect, later identified as Ya’u Jaro Saidu of Jegem Village in Lau Local Government Area, was subsequently attacked and killed by a mob in what police described as an act of retaliation.

Following the incident, the police commissioner who met with leaders of the Fulani and Jenjo communities, urged them to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands. He stressed the importance of peaceful coexistence and respect for the rule of law.

According to the statement, community leaders pledged to maintain peace and cooperate with security agencies to forestall further violence.

Dongshal has also ordered a comprehensive investigation to identify and apprehend all those involved in both the stabbing and the mob action.

The command called on residents to remain law abiding and vigilant, urging them to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police formation.

Authorities further reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.

BREAKING: Gunmen abduct ex-Tinubu minister Adelabu’s sister, twin sons in Ibadan

Yet to be identified gunmen have kidnapped one of the sisters of the immediate past Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu.

Adelabu recently resigned from the cabinet of President Bola Tinubu to contest the governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Oyo State. He reportedly lost the election to Senator Sharafadeen Alli.

DAILY POST gathered that Adelabu’s sister was kidnapped alongside her twin sons in the early hours of Wednesday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The abducted woman was identified as Mrs Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, while her twin sons were named Peter and Paul.

It was learnt that the incident occurred when the woman was on her way to drop the twins at their school.

As at the time of this report, there whereabouts is unknown.

Efforts to get a reaction from the Public Relations Officer of the State Police command, Olayinka Ayanlade, were not successful at at the time of filing this report on Wednesday.

However, a media aide to the former minister, Femi Awogboro, confirmed the incident.

Awogboro said the incident has been reported to the police.

In a statement released on Wednesday morning, Awogboro said, “The family of Chief Adebayo Adelabu, former Minister of Power and leading gubernatorial aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, wishes to formally confirm the unfortunate kidnapping of his younger sister, Mrs Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, alongside her twin sons, Peter and Paul, in the early hours of Wednesday, June 3, 2026.

“Mrs John-Paul, aged 43, was reportedly abducted by armed gunmen at about 7:30 a.m. while on her way to drop her children at school in Ibadan. The abductors also forcefully took away her 12-year-old twin sons who were with her at the time of the incident.

“Mrs Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul is the youngest of the five children of Mrs Olufunmilayo Aduke Adegoke Adelabu.

“Until her voluntary retirement last year, she had served meritoriously at both the Central Bank of Nigeria and First Bank Pension Custodian. Following her retirement, she relocated to Ibadan with her children while making preparations to eventually join her husband, Mr. John Paul, who had earlier relocated to the United States of America.”

15-year-old boy killed over food dispute in Kano village

A 15-year-old boy, Ahmed Sulaiman, has died following a violent altercation among teenagers over food in Gwangwan Village, Rogo Local Government Area of Kano State.
The incident was contained in a post shared on X by security analyst, Zagazola Makama on Wednesday.

According to the report, the incident happened on June 1 at about 9:00 p.m. after a disagreement broke out among a group of teenagers in the community.

Police sources said the argument involved Ahmed Sulaiman, 15, and three other teenagers identified as Abdulaziz Garzali, 13, Amiru Sani, 15, and Habu Mani, 14.

The disagreement reportedly started over food before it turned violent.

“During the fight, Abdulaziz allegedly got a knife from Habu and used it to stab Ahmed, causing serious injuries.

“The victim was rushed to Rogo General Hospital for treatment but was confirmed dead while receiving medical attention,” Makama said.

The village head of Gwangwan, Alhaji Muhammad Tukur, was said to have reported the incident to security authorities.

Police sources said the suspects have been identified and are assisting with investigations to determine what led to the incident.

The Kano State Police Command said a full investigation is ongoing and assured that appropriate legal action would be taken after the probe.

Bandits repelled, 25 rustled cattle recovered in Sokoto

Troops have repelled a bandit attack in Sokoto State and recovered 25 rustled cattle after a gun battle with the attackers in Tureta Local Government Area.

The information was contained in a post shared on X on Wednesday by security analyst Zagazola Makama.

According to the report, the attack happened on June 2 at about 2:00 p.m. when armed bandits invaded Imasa Matankari village, shooting sporadically and rustling livestock.

The village is said to be located along the border area with Zamfara State, an area often affected by bandit activities.

Troops of the 8 Division Operation FANSAN YANMA were quickly mobilised to the scene and blocked possible escape routes used by the attackers.

A gun duel reportedly followed, forcing the bandits to flee into the Kuruwa Forest.

During the confrontation, the attackers abandoned the rustled cattle, allowing the troops to recover all 25 cows alive and unhurt.

“No casualties were recorded among security personnel or residents during the operation,” Makama wrote.

Security sources said the recovered animals will be returned to their owners after proper identification by community leaders.
