Appeal Court affirms Prof Gombe as national leader of SDP
The Court of Appeal in Abuja has again affirmed Prof Abubakar Sadiq Gombe as the National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, thereby laying to rest the long drawn legal battle on the soul of the party.
The appellate court in a unanimous decision delivered on Wednesday, by a three-man panel led by Justice Fadawu Umaru voided the Federal High Court judgment that had recognised the expelled Shehu Gabam as chairman.

Osun election: 1.91 million PVCs collected – INEC
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, says about 1,906,390 Permanent Voter Cards have been collected by registered voters in Osun State ahead of August 15, 2026 governorship election in the state.
A statement by the National Commissioner and Chairman of its Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna, on Thursday said the figure represents 81.50 per cent of the 2,339,233 registered voters in the state, leaving 426,842 PVCs, representing 18.50 per cent, uncollected.

Osun election: PDP endorses Adeleke, directs members to rally behind him
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has endorsed Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, for Saturday’s governorship election after the Court of Appeal upheld the nomination of Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola as the party’s candidate.
The party disclosed this in a statement signed by the PDP Interim National Working Committee’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong.

Osun Guber: Kwara CP charges deployed personnel on discipline, neutrality
Barely days to the Osun State gubernatorial polls, the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, has charged officers and men of the command deployed for election security duties in the state to maintain the highest standards of discipline, neutrality and professional conduct throughout the exercise.
While addressing the personnel ahead of deployment, the police commissioner conveyed the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, that all officers assigned to election duties must remain apolitical and impartial, while discharging their responsibilities strictly in accordance with the law and established rules of engagement.
Ojo Adekimi reminded the personnel that election security is a critical national assignment and warned against any conduct capable of compromising the integrity of the Nigeria Police Force or undermining public confidence in the electoral process, including extortion, fraternisation with political actors and unnecessary use of force.
A statement by the spokesperson of the command, SP Adetoun Ejire Adeyemi, in Ilorin on Thursday, said the CP directed the personnel to remain vigilant, maintain effective communication with their respective commanders and ensure the protection of lives and property, preservation of public order and a secure environment for citizens to exercise their franchise without intimidation or interference.
The police commissioner, expressed confidence in the preparedness of the deployed personnel and charged them to remain worthy ambassadors of the state police command throughout the assignment.
